Job Description:
Meritus Medical Center is seeking an experienced and dedicated IMC Registered Nurse to join its team in a fast-paced intermediate care setting. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both IMC and ICU settings and be confident in managing a patient ratio of 1:4.
This 28-bed Intermediate Care Unit (IMC) provides specialized care to adult and geriatric patients presenting with a variety of complex medical and surgical conditions.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver safe, compassionate, and comprehensive care to patients in the IMC setting.
- Monitor and manage patients requiring intermediate levels of care including post-cardiac events, surgical recovery, and chronic ventilator support.
- Administer medications, cardiac drips, and blood products in accordance with physician orders.
- Interpret and respond to telemetry and dysrhythmia changes; participate in Rapid Response protocols.
- Provide tracheostomy care, ventilator monitoring, and oxygen therapy including CPAP/BiPAP and HFNC.
- Manage and maintain central lines, PICC lines, and feeding tubes.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including respiratory, PT, radiology, pharmacy, and social work.
- Float to other units within scope of practice as needed to meet hospital staffing requirements.
- Document care accurately using EPIC electronic charting.
Requirements:
- Minimum Experience: 2 years of recent IMC experience (ICU experience highly preferred).
- Travel Experience: Required – No first-time travelers.
- Certifications Required:
- ACLS (AHA)
- BLS (AHA)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Charting System: EPIC (Required)
- License: Valid Maryland RN license or active compact license required at time of submission.
- Patient Ratio: 1:4 (days, nights, weekends)

- Weekend Requirement: Minimum of 5 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule.
- Float Requirement: Yes, within scope.
- Orientation: 12 hours

Unit Highlights:

- Common Diagnoses: NSTEMI, STEMI, chronic ventilator patients, DKA, post-cardiac cath, trauma, and general surgery
- Advanced Interventions: Chest tube management, TPN, PCA, insulin and heparin drips, telemetry monitoring
- Support Services: Respiratory therapy, PT, radiology, pharmacy, social services, phlebotomy, RRT
