Patients in this unit range from medical surgical level of care to PCU and ICU level of care. Ratios can fluctuate based on patient acuity, ranging from 1:4 to 1:6 typically. This is a boarding unit where patients are stabilized before being discharged or moved to inpatient units. RNs must be prepared to manage multiple patients and handle high admissions and discharges. Team nursing is practiced on this unit, and RNs may work alongside LPNs. Additional responsibilities may include administering medications and performing procedures as required. Flexibility in floating to different units is essential, including inpatient PCU units if needed. Candidates should be comfortable with a high volume of patient movement and changing conditions. This role requires RNs to maintain high standards of patient care and effective communication with the healthcare team. Evening and weekend shifts will be required on a rotating basis. Candidates must work 2 of 3 major holidays during the contract period. RNs will be expected to complete necessary training modules prior to the start of the position.
