Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Evening, Night Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 3 years in Emergency Department License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC, PALS Must-Have: - Experience in Emergency Department - Good communication skills and assessment skills - Preferably prior travel experience Description: The department operates as a trauma center with state certification. Shifts may include scheduling from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, 12:00 PM to 12:00 AM, or 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM. The facility features triage beds, trauma bays, and additional beds for patient care. There is a separate triage area used when needed. Patients are not held in the emergency department to ensure bed availability. The facility includes a single patient psych/seclusion room with video monitoring. Security personnel are present 24/7, providing coverage throughout the facility. On average, the emergency department treats approximately 40 patients per day. The nurse-to-patient ratio may vary, reaching 3-4 to 1 during peak times for short periods. Common diagnoses include abdominal pain, falls, and chest pain, with a pediatric patient volume of about 20%. Common medication drips include antibiotics, cardiac medications, heparin, TPA, and insulin. An emergency department physician is present 24 hours a day, supported by a mid-level provider. A charge nurse is available daily and may also take on patient assignments. Support staff includes nurse aides, EMTs, paramedics, and LPNs, with coverage provided 24/7. Respiratory therapy is available at all hours. Laboratory staff may assist with arterial blood gas draws as required. Nurses will be responsible for interpreting their own cardiac monitor strips. Transport of patients for imaging is typically managed by staff trained in advanced cardiac life support. Phlebotomy services may be provided by both nurses and dedicated staff. Scheduling involves attempts to coordinate block scheduling and 12-hour shifts. Travelers may be required to work every other weekend and one holiday each season. There is no on-call or standby requirement. Scrub color is gray, and scrubs will be provided by the facility. Orientation typically involves teaming with another nurse over three shifts.
