Job Overview
The ER Registered Nurse will provide critical care in a fast-paced emergency department serving adult, pediatric, geriatric, and trauma patients. The role requires proficiency in trauma response, emergency procedures, and interdisciplinary collaboration while adhering to Ballad Health's policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Triage and stabilize patients with chest pain, respiratory failure, sepsis, fractures, traumatic injuries, and behavioral health crises.
- Administer medications, including IV paralytics, vasopressors, and procedural sedation.
- Perform chest tube management, intubation, central line care, phlebotomy, and 12-lead EKG interpretation.
- Collaborate with PT, Respiratory Therapy, Radiology, and Pharmacy teams.
- Support nursing student education per Ballad Health's clinical training initiatives.
- Float to LPH Med/Surg or nearby EDs (Norton Community Hospital/Lee County Community Hospital) as needed.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education & Licensure
- Active RN license (in-hand at submission).
- BSN required for international travelers.
- Certifications:
- Required: AHA BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, PALS, TNCC* (*preferred).
- Preferred: NRP.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of ER experience.
- Preferred:
- Charge nurse experience.
- Level I/II Trauma Center, Community Hospital, or Teaching Hospital exposure.
- Charting systems: Epic.
Skills
- Clinical: Trauma care, dysrhythmia management, ventilator/BiPAP, pediatric emergencies.
- Procedural: IV therapy, splinting, FAST exam bedside ultrasound.
- Behavioral Health: Suicide risk assessment, violent behavior management.
Work Conditions & Policies
- Schedule: Block scheduling (subject to change based on unit needs).
- Floating/Call: No call, but floating required.
- Holidays: Rotating (New Year's, Labor Day, July 4th, etc.).
- Vaccines: Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required.
- Compliance:
- Drug test 12–14 days prior to start (must be available for potential retesting).
- Non-billable orientation: 16 hours (includes 4–5 hours of modules).

- Patient Demographics: Neonates to geriatrics.
- Special Equipment: Telemetry for neuro/psych/cardiology.
