Job Title: Dialysis RNLocation: Rochester, NY 14626Start Date: 09/07, 09/14Assignment Length: 13 weeksShift: Day, 4x10-Hour (07:00 – 17:00)
Responsibilities
- Perform initiation, setup, and management of dialysis treatments.
- Cannulate AV fistulas and AV grafts, and manage tunneled/non-tunneled catheter access.
- Operate and troubleshoot dialysis equipment including 20008T Fresenius and Prismaflex machine for CRRT.
- Monitor patients throughout treatment, addressing complications such as hypotension, fluid overload, cardiac arrest, air emboli, clotting, or filter blood leaks.
- Administer blood and blood products during dialysis.
- Recognize and respond to machine alarms (blood pump, venous/arterial pressure, conductivity, temperature, ultrafiltration, etc.).
- Provide patient education and support for symptom management.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to deliver safe, effective, and patient-centered care.
- Maintain accurate documentation using Epic or other charting systems.
- Uphold infection control standards and ensure safety protocols are followed at all times.
Qualifications
- Active RN license (state requirements apply).
- BLS certification (required).
- Minimum 1 year dialysis RN experience, including charge or team lead responsibilities.
- Proficiency in acute inpatient dialysis preferred; outpatient dialysis experience accepted.
- Strong knowledge of dialysis complications, emergency response, and dysrhythmia interpretation.
- Familiarity with Epic charting system preferred.
- Travel nursing experience not required.
Skills & Knowledge
- Blood glucose monitoring and symptom management during treatment.
- Troubleshooting dialysis machine alarms.
- Expertise in managing complications: hyperkalemia, hemolysis, seizures, pericarditis, chest pain, muscle cramps, etc.
- Patient-centered care and strong communication skills.
