Facility: Albany Medical CenterLocation: Albany, New YorkUnit: Cardiac Cath LabShift: Day Shift, 4x10-Hour (07:00 - 17:30), Monday - FridayOn-Call Requirement: One (1) weeknight per week and one (1) weekend per monthContract Duration: 13 weeks

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Cardiac Catheterization Lab Registered Nurse to provide specialized care for patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures. This role requires expertise in hemodynamic monitoring, procedural sedation, and emergency cardiac care within a fast-paced lab environment. The ideal candidate will be proficient in assisting with a wide range of cardiac procedures and responding to emergent situations.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

  • Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of recent Cardiac Cath Lab experience.
  • Certifications: BLS and ACLS are required.
  • Technical Skills: Epic electronic medical record system experience is REQUIRED.
  • Availability: Must be available for on-call requirements (one weeknight per week and one weekend per month).
  • Travel Policy: No local candidates within the facility's defined ineligible counties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized nursing care to patients undergoing cardiac catheterization, angioplasty, stent placement, and other interventional cardiology procedures.
  • Administer and monitor procedural sedation in collaboration with the physician.
  • Perform continuous hemodynamic monitoring and assessment of patients during procedures.
  • Assist with the preparation, operation, and maintenance of specialized cardiac equipment.
  • Administer medications, including contrast media, anticoagulants, and vasoactive drugs as ordered.
  • Monitor for and respond to potential complications during and after procedures.
  • Provide patient education pre- and post-procedure regarding the procedure, recovery, and discharge instructions.
  • Collaborate effectively with cardiologists, radiologists, and the multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Unit & Patient Population Details

  • Patient Population: Adults undergoing diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures for conditions such as coronary artery disease, structural heart disease, and arrhythmias.
  • Clinical Focus: Hemodynamic monitoring, procedural sedation management, sterile technique, emergency cardiac care, and post-procedure recovery.
  • Care Environment: State-of-the-art cardiac catheterization laboratory within a Level I Trauma Center and comprehensive heart center.
  • Typical Procedures: Left and right heart catheterization, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), coronary angiography, pacemaker/ICD implantation, and structural heart procedures.
  • Technology: Advanced hemodynamic monitoring systems, fluoroscopy equipment, intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), fractional flow reserve (FFR) measurement, and emergency cardiac equipment.
  • Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs required
