Job Title: Nurse Manager, Emergency Department Profession: Nursing Specialty: Nurse Manager Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 8am - 4pm Experience: Minimum of five (5) years nursing experience in a management and/or supervisory role in the Emergency Department. License: Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse. Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS Must-Have: Must have Emergency Department experience for this role. Description: Nurse Manager Emergency Department assumes 24-hour responsibility for overall assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. Responsibilities include oversight and direction for the emergency department, as well as accountability for planning, directing, leading, and evaluating nursing care within the department. Foster an environment of collaboration and respect with all other healthcare team members. Weekend and holiday coverage as needed is also a responsibility of the role. Performs related duties as required. Operational Performance: Develops long-term unit staffing schedules and ensures adequate daily coverage in accordance with established staffing needs. Develops measures and monitors unit operational performance metrics, including agency and overtime costs, vacancy, and turnover rates. Oversees daily workflow, staffing, orientation, training, and development of employees within the department. Responsible for ongoing quality/performance improvement processes related to the emergency department. Promotes and supports a collaborative team approach in providing care for all emergency department and trauma patients. Approaches others in a tactful manner and treats others with respect and consideration. Supports and interprets policies, procedures, and objectives of the organization. Monitors customer satisfaction scores and implements plans to improve scores. Monitors patient volume, quality of care, and performance of staff to identify areas for improvement. Maintains a departmental dashboard that includes information and progress on people, service, quality, and leadership. Responsible for investigating patient, physician, and staff complaints/concerns and works to resolve these issues. Maintains required competencies for self and all employees within the department. Participates in a professional organization. Clinical Practice/Patient Care: Collaborates with nursing leadership to establish nursing care standards and evaluates staff compliance. Identifies protocols affecting the patient population served and keeps nursing staff informed. Demonstrates self-development and keeps current on a variety of clinical management and healthcare topics. Maintains a safe and caring environment for patients, families, and staff that is conducive to positive health teaching and maintenance; develops mechanisms to assess the same. Ensures equal access to treatment for all individuals in need. Management: Participates in the overall planning process for the service. Conducts monthly meetings with the staff to address equipment, scheduling, goals, objectives, performance metrics, improvement activities, and any staff concerns. Human Resource Development/Management: Educates and evaluates staff. Works with nursing leadership and human resources to counsel, discipline, and terminate staff as needed. Educates staff in new and existing department procedures and systems. Creates and maintains an atmosphere of respect and courtesy toward patients, staff, and colleagues.
