Position Overview
Mount Sinai Health System is seeking two (2) Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to join the Emergency Department on a contract basis. The LPN will provide supportive and restorative nursing care under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse or other licensed provider. This role requires proficiency in routine and specialized clinical tasks, including medication administration, IV therapy, patient preparation, and emergency procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver nursing care in structured, routine situations within scope of practice.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs).
- Administer treatments and perform routine procedures such as suctioning and urinary catheterization.
- Prepare patients for surgery, diagnostic testing, treatments, and examinations.
- Administer medications as permitted by licensure; accurately collect, label, and process specimens.
- Identify and set up IV equipment, administer solutions via peripheral access devices, and administer blood/blood products with required training.
- Document observations, treatments, and incidents accurately using unit-approved charting methods.
- Collaborate with RNs to contribute to patient care plans and reinforce patient/family teaching.
- Provide emotional support and rehabilitation assistance in accordance with the care plan.
- Ensure patient safety and comfort at all times.
- Participate in patient care conferences and team-based nursing care delivery.
- Assist in emergency situations by initiating resuscitative procedures (BCLS, Team 7000 activation).
Qualifications
Education & Licensure:
- Completion of an accredited LPN educational program.
- Current New York State LPN license.
- Completion of NYS Department of Health LPN IV Therapy Initial Program.
- Completion of annual review/update for intravenous therapy procedures.
Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (AHA).
Experience & Skills:
- Strong clinical skills in providing restorative and supportive nursing care.
- Experience in IV therapy, medication administration, and patient preparation.
- Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.
- Compassionate, patient-focused approach to care.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
