Description:

The Transporter I is responsible for the safe transportation and delivery of patients, lab specimens, and requisitions. The Transporter I is required to interact with patients, hospital staff, and physicians in a courteous and professional manner. Transporter I's are also responsible for locating and cleaning Department-owned equipment, such as wheelchairs, stretchers, carts, etc.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Transports and/or accompanies patients and their related equipment (such as IV poles, IV infusion pumps, oxygen tanks, SCD, etc.), to and from treatment units and outpatient centers within prescribed timeframe and in a courteous and professional manner.
  • When called, may help pull the patient over to the bed/stretcher and lift the patient onto the treatment table, if requested by the UICMC staff nurse to do so.
  • Manually cleans and disinfects patient transport equipment and other related equipment.
  • Wears appropriate level of personal protective equipment (PPE) throughout the cleaning process (mask, eye protection, and gloves).
  • Delivers urine, blood, and other chemical specimens to the Laboratories and other locations throughout the Medical center and its entities, as required.
  • Distributes Medical Center equipment, such as wheelchairs, stretchers, specialty beds, patient monitoring, and other pieces of equipment required for patient care throughout the Medical center and its entities as required when transporting patients.
  • Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
