Position is manual and equipment operational work involved in the maintenance and replacement of bridges, pipe, and reinforced concrete box culverts. Work will include a wide variety of skills utilized in the functional areas including carpentry, concrete work, machine operation, contract inspection, repair of bridges/culverts/large pipe & headwalls, sandblasting and painting, demolition work, trenching and shoring, lead paint removal and steel fabrication.Management prefers applicants with the following:* Experience in traffic control and lane closures on multi-lane roads* Experience in supervising and training others in equipment operations as well as directing the daily activities of a work crew* Experience in rigging loads for crane/lifting operations* Experience in the maintenance and installation of erosion control devices* Experience in the operation of at least 2 pieces of the following equipment: backhoe, tandem dump truck, front end loader, forklift, track excavator, skid steer or sweeperAdditional Expectations:This level will serve as a Senior Lead Worker. Work requires advanced level skills in a variety of functional areas including: equipment operation, pile driving, carpentry, concrete work, machine operation, contract inspect, repair of culverts, bridges, large pipe, bulkheads and pile clusters, sandblasting/painting, demolition work, welding, structure inspect, trenching/shoring, lead paint removal, steel fabrication and steel beam repair, installation and maintenance of erosion control. Ability to obtain welding certificate through On The Job training within 1 year of hire date. Must be willing to attend training and continuing education classes to keep up to date on all state/federal regulations and maintain certifications in all required areas (i.e: traffic control and environmental stewardship). Position will require bending and walking on uneven terrain. May be required to work during non-traditional work hours, including nights, weekends, holidays and times of emergency.Possession of a current Commercial Driver's License is mandatory for essential duties. CDL can be obtained through on-the-job training with 360 days to obtain a license. Pre-employment drug testing required for this position. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past two years about controlled substances and alcohol testing.
