Job Description
The Transportation Safety Coordinator will be responsible for fostering a strong safety culture in our Material Recovery Division. They will do this through auditing drivers and employees for safety opportunities, training local employees on safety policies and programs, organizing and leading safety committee meetings, and ensuring compliance with all TOMRA, state, and federal safety regulations. The ideal candidate must possess excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate professionally and politely with individuals at all organizational levels.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitoring and enforcing PPE requirements.Building and maintaining a positive safety culture within the Transportation team.Communicating safety hazards and opportunities to managers and supervisors.Conducting safety audits in the facility and within the fleet.Ensuring compliance with safety policies and programs, including digital record keeping of trainings.Familiarity with and enforcement of policies in the Company's Fleet Safety Handbook.Managing monthly and yearly safety training compliance (KPA/SAMBA).Leading incident and accident root cause analyses for transportation employees.Observing daily operations, reporting unsafe conditions or acts, and ensuring corrective actions.Collaborating with transportation, EHS, P&O, and operational leadership to develop safety policies and programs.Managing TOMRA's safety committee program in Bronx, including developing and coaching committee members and employees.Leading monthly safety committee meetings and quarterly regional safety meetings.Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma or GED required; some college coursework preferred.
- 1-2 years of safety experience, preferably in a transportation environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), CCTV, and ability to learn new software quickly.
- Strong oral and written communication skills for effective stakeholder engagement and persuasive communication.
- Ability to foster teamwork and promote safety culture and core values.
- Resourceful team player, proactive, effective independently, and problem solver.
- Ability to learn and apply new knowledge effectively.
- Capacity to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Attention to detail and a strong work ethic.
