Parts Associate

Reports To: Shop Foremen

Job Goal: To purchase and maintain supplies and/or parts needed for the repair and maintenance of buses and company vehicles in order to support the smooth and economical operation of the District transportation fleet

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience in a comparable position preferred
  • Possess and maintain a valid Alabama bus driver license (ABL) and commercial driver's license (CDL) with P/S endorsement OR eligible to obtain within six (6) months
  • Maintain a current Alabama School Bus Physical or ALDOT Health Card as required by state law or the Alabama State Department of Education
  • Possess and maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record including the ability to remain insurable under school system insurance requirements
  • Ability to pass a drug test in accordance with applicable law
  • Knowledge of general office equipment, processes, and procedures
  • Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and perform assignments as directed with accuracy, attention to detail, and within established time frames
  • Ability to proficiently use technology to communicate, to manage data/systems, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information
  • Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner
  • Ability to operate a school vehicle over an assigned route according to a defined time schedule, which may require driving during pre-daylight and dusk periods
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds and to exert up to fifty (50) pounds of force
  • Physical, mental, and emotional ability and stamina to perform all duties and responsibilities as specified by state and federal regulations, including but not limited to pre-trip inspections, post-trip inspections, and bus evacuations
  • Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance
  • Ability to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as state, federal, and local law and the Board may require

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and priorities
  • Orders, receives, records, monitors, stores, and issues spare and replacement parts, equipment, and expendable items used in the repair/maintenance shop
  • Manages warranty parts ordering and returns
  • Establishes and maintains accurate inventory levels and records
  • Maintains and updates all vendor pricing
  • Creates, maintains, updates, and reconciles purchase orders
  • Assists Shop personnel in looking up, pulling, issuing, and transferring parts while completing all the associated documentation and data entries
  • Performs regular inventory counts as requested
  • Maintains a clean and safe storeroom
  • Performs the essential functions of a bus driver as needed, including but not limited to transporting students
  • Engages in work-related training to increase knowledge and skills as directed and/or for advancement
  • Provides superior customer service at all times, responding to inquiries, requests, and constructive feedback in a timely and positive manner
  • Properly cares for tools, equipment, and material resources of the school system
  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility
  • Prepares, maintains, and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner
  • Adheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal and local laws
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s)
