This position performs work following established safety policies and procedures and applicable codes and regulations. This position is also expected to work extended hours on rotating shifts during leaf collection, emergencies and inclement weather. As a member of our 218 person staff, you will contribute to maintenance of 1,130 miles of streets and sidewalks; the upkeep of over 33,000 curb ramps; and the protection of 3.2 million linear feet of stormwater pipes connecting more than 32,000 drainage inlets.Within the Landscape Maintenance Unit you will be part of a team responsible for maintaining medians and rights-of-way throughout the City by trimming trees, bushes, and grass, and planting various trees and plants each season. - Maintaining City of Raleigh rights-of-way by mowing, edging, and trimming grass using large mowing equipment such as zero turn mowers, out-front mowers, and various other types of equipment
- Trimming and edging using small equipment
- Setting up work zones and lane closures
- Trimming trees and other vegetation to prevent encroachment into sidewalks and/or rights-of-way
- Picking up litter and debris in work areas
- Applying mulch to plant beds
- Operating a walk behind leaf machine during leaf collection; snow removal equipment to maintain streets, sidewalks, and driveways; assisting in cleanup and repair during inclement weather situations
Typical QualificationsEducation and Experience:High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency; Less than 1 year experience in construction, maintenance or related workOR Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substitutedLicenses and Certifications:
- Valid North Carolina Class C driver's license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
