Description

The Transfer Coordination Specialist (TCS) serves as the highly visible and critical role within the communications center, a 24/7 function that provides rapid and efficient transport and coordination of emergency patient referrals. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring high-level customer service to all clients, both internal and external, throughout the patient referral process.
  • Receiving, documenting, and communicating time-sensitive clinical data from a multitude of sources.
  • Coordinating complex ground and air transport logistics and internal response teams for medical emergencies.
  • Continuously monitoring regional and Federal emergency medical communications systems; receiving and transmitting emergency and urgent information via radio and telephone utilizing multiple computer systems to track, document, and facilitate these activities.
  • The incumbent is comfortable working in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment with a passion and desire to continually provide high-quality service while performing multiple simultaneous functions. Successful individuals hold strong critical thinking skills, are proficient in synthesizing verbal information, and are able to interpret and apply detailed policies and procedures.

    Qualifications

    Minimum EducationHigh School Diploma or GED (Required) And Prior completion of an approved Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) program (required)Minimum Work Experience1 year of experience in one or more of the following areas: customer service, call center, hospital transfer center/patient flow, healthcare facility clerical/administrative staff, EMS, or public safety dispatch. (Clinical experience obtained during initial EMT-B training will be considered.) (Required)1 year EMT-B field experience. (Preferred)1 year experience with health information technology (ex. EMR, patient registration) and/or computer-aided dispatch systems is a plus. (Preferred)Required Skills/KnowledgeProficient with Microsoft Windows based computer applications.Proficient in medical terminology.Required Licenses and CertificationsActive EMT or Paramedic certification is required. Upon Hire (Required)Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) Employment is contingent on obtaining National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification within 6 months of hire and maintaining this certification continuously. 180 Days (Required)Functional AccountabilitiesCommunication

    • Continuously monitor and operate multiple radio, telephone and recording systems, providing immediate response to emergency and urgent calls from regional EMS agencies.
    • Act as liaison between pre-hospital personnel and CNMC resources.
    • Recognize and communicate concerning or critical cases and activate in-house medical response teams.

    Coordination

    • Receive patient-related and clinical information from outside physicians in private practice or from referring hospitals.
    • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including nurses, physicians, paramedics, and administrators to process and prepare information in prep for a patient transfer.
    • Coordinate ambulance and helicopter transport to and from CNMC.
    • Manage transport logistics, assign transports, ensure efficient operations within the Department of Transport Medicine.
    • Oversee helipad operations.

    Data Systems

    • Operate communication and data systems to support the emergency consultation and referral system, including computer aided dispatching, transport management and physician referral software and use of emerging telecommunications technology.
    • Maintain ECIC data and documentation of daily operations.
    • Perform administrative tasks necessary for ECIC function, including QA of ECIC data.

    CNMC Disaster Command Center Operations

    • Act as coordination point for local and regional emergency response networks, including interfacing CNMC and city-wide response with government disaster command centers and EMS systems.
    • Coordinate regular drills of the city-wide system.
