Job Title: Training SpecialistEffective Date: 07/10/2025 Reports to: HR DirectorPay Range: $29.65-$36.04/hr.; (61.6-74.9k annually)Status: ☒ Full Time ☐ Part Time ☐ Regular ☐ Temporary FLSA: ☐ Exempt ☒ Non-Exempt Job Summary: The Training Specialist plays a pivotal role in fostering a safe, supportive, and effective learning environment for staff by coordinating and delivering targeted training programs that reflect the mission of Chief Seattle Club. This position emphasizes the development of core competencies in de-escalation techniques, Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH), low barrier and harm reduction approaches, maintaining healthy boundaries, and trauma-informed care. Key Focus Areas:
  • De-escalation: Lead trainings on practical de-escalation tactics to help staff safely and effectively manage challenging situations while reducing harm and ensuring the well-being of all involved.
  • PSH/Low Barrier/Harm Reduction: Develop and deliver educational content related to Permanent Supportive Housing principles, low-barrier practices, and harm reduction strategies to support vulnerable populations.
  • Boundaries: Facilitate sessions on setting and maintaining professional boundaries to foster healthy, ethical, and productive relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Trauma-Informed Care: Ensure trainings incorporate trauma-informed care principles and practices, reinforcing a culture of empathy, safety, and respect throughout the organization.
  • Professional Development: Provide ongoing learning opportunities for staff, supporting their growth, skill development, and career advancement.
  • Essential Job Functions:
    • Coordinates and facilitates onboarding and orientation for new hires, including culturally informed approaches and core training in the above focus areas.
    • Develops and delivers staff trainings on de-escalation, trauma-informed care, boundaries, harm reduction, workplace conduct, housing program procedures, and emergency protocols.
    • Partners with managers and program leads to assess training needs and creates responsive content.
    • Tracks, documents, and maintains training completion records for internal and external compliance audits.
    • Provides logistical and administrative support for external trainings, including scheduling, registration, and preparation of materials.
    • Supports compliance with local, state, federal, and OSHA regulations.
    • Integrates Native cultural knowledge and community-informed practices wherever possible.
    • Maintains and updates content in the learning management system (LMS), as applicable.
    • Maintain active engagement in promoting a safe work environment by following safety procedures and participating in required safety trainings relevant to their role.
    Non-Essential Job Functions:
    • Participates in cross-functional committees or special projects as assigned.
    • Assists in budget development for the training department.
    • Provides input into policy development related to training and development.
    • Supports external training coordination, including vendor selection and contract management.
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Education: Associate's degree in education, Human Resources, Social Work, Organizational Development, or a related field required; or bachelor's degree preferred. (Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.) Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in a training, instructional, or education support role, preferably in a nonprofit or social service setting. Licenses/Certifications: Must have the ability to obtain trauma-informed care, de-escalation certificate, or related certification within six (6) months of hire.Training certifications such as CPLP (Certified Professional in Learning and Performance), ATD, or SHRM-CP/SCP preferred. Technical Skills & Competencies:
    • Experience with adult learning principles, instructional design, and e-learning tools (e.g., ADP or similar LMS platforms).
    • Demonstrated experience managing training projects from concept to completion.
    Soft Skills: Communication Skills
    • Expresses oneself effectively both orally and in written form. Actively listens to others.
    • Communicates plans and activities in a manner that supports strategies for HR's team involvement.
    • Quickly communicates critical issues to the manager and team. Engages in discussions to solve problems with a focus on outcomes.
    Preferred Qualifications: Previous work experience with Native American/Alaska Native populations. Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
    • Office environment with occasional travel to housing facilities within King County.
    • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
    • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally for training materials or equipment setup.
    • Requires use of standard office equipment and visual/auditory ability to present and engage in learning sessions.
    • Most positions at CSC are exposed to members of the community who have experienced or are experiencing trauma in various forms including but not limited to: domestic violence, sexual violence, homelessness, unemployment, financial hardship, etc. As a result, staff are at risk of secondary trauma. Employees are encouraged to seek external support and maintain self-care when working indirectly or directly with clients. Mental health care referrals for employees is available.
