Padgett Business Services of NW Ohio is an accounting, payroll, and tax firm that has served the greater Toledo area for over 30 years. We specialize in helping small businesses make more money while reducing their tax liabilities. We have been growing the business significantly over the last few years and are looking for a motivated, hardworking, and dedicated Training and Process Improvement Manager to help us manage our workflow to achieve desired growth.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Training and Process Improvement Manager is a key leadership role responsible for enhancing the firm's operational efficiency, staff development, and client service delivery. This multifaceted position oversees new hire and intern training, process improvement across accounting, tax, and payroll functions, and technology implementation. The role is also responsible for managing client transitions to new payroll systems, supporting compliance reporting, and improving profitability through process optimization and billing analysis. Additionally, this individual will lead efforts to streamline and standardize the proposal and quoting process for all accounting and tax services.
SUMMARY OF PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Training & Intern Management
- Design and deliver structured onboarding and training programs for new hires and interns.
- Manage the internship program, including hiring, scheduling, supervision, and performance development.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and ensure consistent process adherence across teams.
- Tax Preparation & Review
- Prepare and review individual and business tax returns for accuracy and compliance.
- Work with the tax team to maintain high-quality standards and improve workflow efficiencies.
- Accounting Process Support
- Assist with monthly accounting engagements, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and client satisfaction.
- Implement automation and process enhancements to reduce manual work and improve output consistency.
- Process Review & Improvement
- Conduct in-depth evaluations of internal workflows across departments.
- Identify inefficiencies and lead process redesign initiatives to enhance realization and profitability.
- Collaborate with team leads to eliminate bottlenecks and improve service delivery.
- Billing & Time Management
- Support monthly recurring billing and ensure engagement terms are accurately reflected in invoices.
- Analyze time logs to detect underbilling and implement changes to reduce scope creep and improve margins.
- Systems & Technology Implementation
- Lead the identification, implementation, and training for new systems and software tools.
- Promote the use of technology firm-wide to increase productivity and data accuracy.
- Payroll Transition & Compliance
- Manage the transition of all payroll clients to a new payroll service provider, ensuring high client retention.
- Train clients on using the new system and serve as a point of contact during the transition period.
- Oversee remaining payroll compliance activities including:
- Workers' compensation audit and true-up reporting.
- Advising clients on W-2 reporting for shareholder health insurance, company vehicle usage, and other fringe benefits.
- Proposal & Quoting Process
- Lead the streamlining and standardization of the proposal and quoting process for accounting and tax services.
- Work with leadership and client service teams to develop efficient, scalable templates and workflows.
- Implement tools and processes to ensure timely, accurate, and consistent pricing and proposal delivery.
- Engagement Profitability & Realization Optimization
- Collaborate with leadership to enhance engagement profitability and realization rates.
- Track performance metrics across engagements and recommend improvements based on analysis.
- Develop best practices and documentation to guide teams in delivering value efficiently.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Management, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in public accounting, operations, training, or process improvement roles.
- Solid knowledge of accounting, tax, and payroll procedures.
- Experience managing staff and implementing firm-wide process enhancements.
- Proficiency with accounting, tax, time-tracking, and billing software.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and leadership skills.
Preferred Skills:
- CPA or EA designation (preferred but not required).
- Experience with proposal or engagement management systems.
- Project management or process improvement certification (e.g., Lean Six Sigma).
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with technical and non-technical teams.
