Train Host (Part Time)

As a Train Host for the Utah Transit Authority, you will:

  • Oversee the safety of customers boarding/riding the Commuter Rail (Frontrunner)
  • Provide customer service at station platforms.
  • Assist passengers with bridge plate deployment per ADA requirements.
  • Oversee the wellbeing of customers on board the train and station platforms.
  • Walk the entire train in between stations.
  • Communicate appropriate information to dispatchers, Transit Police, customers, supervisors, and others designated to receive such information.
  • Answer questions from customers and others.
  • Shuttle UTA personnel and passengers using a non-revenue shuttle van to transport other UTA personnel and passengers on occasion.

Pay Rate:$17.69 per hour

Education/Experience:

  • One year experience in a customer service role providing face to face instructions and clarifying information with ability to solve problems and resolve customer inquiries.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successfully complete a required training program (training provided by UTA)
  • Speaking a second language is a plus but not required.
  • Must have a valid Utah Driver's License with no more than 4 moving violations in the past 3 years; cannot have more than 1 violation of driving under the influence of alcohol or any drug within the last 10 years.
  • Training in CPR and emergency preparedness is a plus but not required.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Communicate with supervisors and customers and maintain good customer relations both orally and over the phone and radio.
  • Read and understand training materials, operating manuals and operating and safety rules and directives.
  • Prepare legible written reports of incidents.
  • Work independently without supervision.
  • Perform the physical requirements of the job to include constantly walking– required to walk the entire consist of train between all stations for entire shift; ability to maintain stability while walking to include stairs on a moving train; place a bridge plate in doorway to accommodate passengers boarding and alighting the train per ADA requirements; open/push doors between cars; and hand out granola and water when necessary – lifting up to 35 lbs.
  • All applicants considered for employment must pass a thorough criminal background check.
  • This job requires regular and predictable attendance.
