Traffic Design Engineer (2-5 years)

Location: Overland Park, Kansas

Garver is seeking a highly motivated Traffic Design Engineer for our Overland Park office to join our growing traffic and transportation planning team. The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of related experience, a strong technical background, and a passion for the profession. This role offers the opportunity to work on exciting projects for DOT and municipal clients across our footprint.

Applicants must have excellent problem-solving skills and be committed to contributing to our highly technical, productive design team. The position reports to a Senior Project Manager and offers significant growth and career advancement opportunities.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop intersection improvement plans
  • Prepare traffic signal plans
  • Prepare ITS plans
  • Prepare signing and pavement marking plans
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and communicate concepts to clients
Additional duties:
  • Assist with project management, including scope, fees, and progress monitoring
  • Prepare project proposals and participate in project pursuits
  • Engage in client marketing and relationship development within our service area
  • Mentor less experienced staff
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program
  • 2-5 years of experience with traffic projects
  • Proficiency in MicroStation
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills and leadership willingness
  • EI/EIT certification or ability to obtain within 1 year
  • Knowledge of MUTCD and FHWA Sign Book
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with OpenRoads, SignCAD, AutoTurn
  • Experience with fiber optic communication systems
  • Experience developing Systems Engineering and Concept of Operations reports
  • Experience in marketing and managing local government projects
  • Experience working with State DOTs and municipalities
