Job TypeFull-timeDescriptionThe Trade Compliance Engineer will lead enterprise-wide efforts to standardize, validate, and sustain item master data related to global trade compliance across a highly decentralized organization with multiple ERPs and business units. The focus of this role is on accurate and complete assignment of HTS codes, Schedule B numbers, Country of Origin (COO), and ECCN classifications.This role is highly cross-functional, interfacing with Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Product Management, Trade Compliance, and IT to drive long-term data integrity, build scalable systems, and implement policies that ensure complete data capture at the point of item creation.The successful candidate will have a blend of technical engineering insight, global compliance awareness, and project management acumen, and will also be responsible for mentoring and training a junior engineer for eventual succession planning.RequirementsKey Responsibilities:Strategic Data Governance

  • Define and implement global standards for trade compliance attributes in item master records.
  • Lead the architecture of a sustainable classification framework for legacy and new products.
  • Assess and harmonize compliance data structure across multiple ERPs (SAP, MRM, Syteline, etc.).
Enterprise-Wide Collaboration
  • Facilitate alignment meetings between business unit engineering leads and compliance owners.
  • Act as the technical point of contact for HTS/ECCN/COO related inquiries and decisions.
  • Partner with product teams to integrate compliance attribute capture into NPI workflows.
Risk Mitigation & Audit Readiness
  • Develop risk assessments for incomplete or incorrect classifications and propose mitigation plans.
  • Ensure documentation and traceability of classification logic for audit defense.
  • Partner with Trade Compliance to maintain up-to-date rules from BIS, CBP, and FTA requirements.
Process Ownership & System Enhancement
  • Lead change management activities tied to compliance data improvements in ERPs.
  • Identify and evaluate middleware or bolt-on software solutions to bridge data consistency.
  • Author and enforce SOPs, data validation protocols, and revision control mechanisms.
Reporting & KPI Development
  • Develop dashboards or weekly reporting tools to track compliance data health and project performance.
  • Present executive-level updates to stakeholders regarding risk, status, and future initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
  • B.S. in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (or related field)
  • 7+ years in product engineering, operations, or product compliance
  • Working knowledge of ECCN, HTS/Schedule B classification, COO, ITAR principles, and dual-use regulations
  • Experience managing projects across matrixed organizations
  • Strong knowledge of ERP environments and Item Master structures
Preferred
  • Experience with classification software (e.g., SAP GTS, Amber Road, Descartes)
  • PMP certification or equivalent project management training
  • Knowledge of customs audit preparation and trade automation tools
