JOB PURPOSE: The Tobacco Treatment Specialist is a new position within Cumberland District Maine Prevention Network (MPN), a State grant funded program of the County's Public Health Department. Pay is based on experience, ranging from $31.08 to $32.98/hr. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship. The role involves executing school-based tobacco treatment initiatives across Cumberland County, engaging with prevention teams, and implementing direct services and policy strategies to reduce youth tobacco use.The specialist collaborates with school leadership to promote quit attempts among youth, provides counseling, connects families with cessation resources, and supports quality improvement through data tracking and evaluation. They also organize and implement policy, systems, and environmental strategies to foster youth health and community engagement.QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Health or Human Services or equivalent experience (preferred).
• Experience in public health, tobacco/substance use prevention, harm reduction, or health education.
• Experience working with GLBT and/or BIPOC populations (preferred).
• Ability to build rapport with youth and families quickly.
• Commitment to harm reduction and confidential, non-judgmental services.
• Ability to connect clinical cessation with community and policy initiatives.
• Basic computer skills and documentation skills.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Bilingual ability (preferred).
• Ability to work independently and in teams in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to establish effective relationships with diverse community stakeholders.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Build relationships with schools and communities.
• Provide evidence-based tobacco cessation support.
• Conduct assessments and motivational interviewing.
• Refer clients to treatment providers as needed.
• Participate in training and team meetings.
• Collect and report data.
• Use community engagement and data to inform interventions.
• Advocate for smoke-free policies and health equity.
• Collaborate with schools on system changes to support tobacco prevention.
• Perform related work as required.
