GENERAL DESCRIPTION Performs advanced (senior-level) treatment consultation and technical assistance work. Provides leadership and guidance to all direct care staff regarding ongoing implementation and maintenance of all aspects of The Texas Model. Works closely with executive-level administrators, half-way house administration, and other staff to support the needs of Texas Model implementation at the assigned facility, consistent with safety and security and the principles of the Texas Model. This will include: demonstration of DBT methods and practices, creation and coordination of resources to support staff learning, assessing staff progress, and supporting supervisors in their evaluation of staff knowledge, skills and abilities. Collaborates with Texas Model Mentors at other facilities to develop and share resources, methods, and practices. Works across the intervention continuum (individual sessions, groups, milieu, meetings) to model, coach and support Texas Model implementation. Maintains situational understanding of the facility's progress towards Texas Model implementation, replicates operational successes, and addresses issues in implementation appropriately. Maintains regular communication with the Director of Structured Programming and Accountability, and the Facility Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent. Acts as a resource for staff to assist with program needs, which may include but is not limited to providing toolkits, training materials, handbooks, and other resources for staff implementing the Model. Work involves assisting in establishing the facility implementation plan and goals/objectives; adhering to all guidelines, procedures, rules, and regulations; and establishing priorities, standards, and measuring tools for determining progress in meeting operational goals. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. May be required to work in excess of 40 hours per workweek, be on-call, and travel. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Provides leadership and consultation on all aspects of TJJD's implementation of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy within the rehabilitative milieu. Mentors, models, and coaches elements of the Texas Model to staff and youth. Provides direction, guidance, and assistance to staff and youth in program area(s). Role models treatment and engagement strategies to staff and youth. Works with campus leadership and Central Support administrators to support quality assurance for all Texas Model competencies on campus. Works with campus leadership and Central Support administrators to support training for all Texas Model competencies on campus. Consults with Youth Support Teams (YST) to assess team clinical knowledge, skills, abilities, and teamwork, and to support development of plans for intervention. Works with staff to develop and establish shaping and contingency management plans for youth behavior, including use of the token economy in the milieu. Facilitates/co-facilitates DBT skills groups with case managers and team leads, as needed. Supports DBT skills group implementation on campus. Works with Central Support administrators to develop and maintain 'campus report cards' to monitor implementation goals. Clearly communicates concerns or issues with implementation in a timely manner to local leadership, and executive administrators. Performs a variety of related duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed. Performs all duties in compliance with agency safety policies and procedures: • Reports safety hazards and corrects hazards when possible. • Completes required documentation in the event of an accident/injury within requested time frames. Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency attendance and leave policies. Will be required to travel up to 10% of the time. Actively embody and support the Texas Model 2.0 by demonstrating its core values in daily tasks and interactions with others. Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree with major course work in business, public administration, criminal justice, social work, behavioral science, or a related field with full-time wage earning experience implementing an evidence-based treatment to fidelity. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Two years of full-time wage earning experience in a juvenile correctional environment. • Training or certification in an evidence-based practice, behavioral intervention, or cognitive-behavioral treatment. Experience and Education Substitutions:
    • One year of appropriate experience may substitute for one year of college (30 course hours) on a year for year basis.
    • Completed course hours of undergraduate study may substitute for up to four years of experience on a basis of 30 course hours for one year of experience.
    • Completed course hours of graduate study may substitute for up to two years of experience on a basis of 12 graduate course hours for one year of experience.
    • Pro-rated part-time experience may satisfy the experience requirements.
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES • Knowledge of local, state, and federal law and regulations relevant to program areas. • Knowledge of principles and practices of public administration. • Knowledge of implementation of programs and practices at a facility level. • Knowledge of all DBT skills taught in TJJD curriculum, plus familiarity with additional skills in manual, handouts and worksheets. • Knowledge of behavior change strategies. • Knowledge of identifying skills needed to problem solve just about any situation that a youth may encounter within the facility or in the community. • Knowledge of all facets of the Texas Model 2.0, and how they connect and support one another. • Knowledge of training and marketing techniques. • Skill in motivating others to engage in new and innovative practices. • Skill in establish plans and setting objectives and goals that support and culture shift. • Skill in explaining each aspect of Texas Model 2.0 and capable of coaching the why behind its importance. • Skill in communicating and working effectively with JCOs, Team Leads, case managers, MHPs, and leaders and administrators. • Skill in using available resources to achieve optimal results. • Skill in compiling, evaluating, and presenting program information. • Skill in identifying measures or indicators of program performance. • Skill in using a computer and applicable software. • Ability to build healthy relationships with youth, staff and stakeholders. • Ability to coach, model and mentor regulation while establishing healthy boundaries. • Ability to model all DBT skills in role plays or situations, and demonstrate all behavior change strategies. • Ability to complete an ITP with competency in all areas. • Ability to explain the information needed to complete an ITP, and identify how to gather that information (interviews, BCAs, etc.). • Ability to engage youth's family members, motivate them to participate in and support youth's treatment, gather information. Model this for staff (CMs, MHPs, Team Leads). • Ability to facilitate adherent DBT Skills Groups. • Ability to implement behavior change strategies on the floor/ in the milieu. • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively (set and accomplish goals) with all stakeholders and maintain a professional, skillful and demeanor. • Ability to recognize when decisions are required, process information logically, make decisions, and demonstrate the soundness of those decisions. • Ability to develop a culture of providing evidence based treatment services while respecting the need for safety and security practices. • Ability to work in excess of 40 hours per workweek, be on-call, and travel.
