Job Description :

This is a Safety Sensitive Position under Arkansas law.

Impairment from drugs, alcohol, or cannabis may endanger health or safety, especially when operating or maintaining vehicles, machinery, or equipment.

The Timber Procurement Specialist will play a vital role in fostering relationships with landowners, loggers, and timber dealers to ensure a steady supply of high-quality logs for our mill operations. We seek a motivated individual who is keen to learn quickly and aspire to grow into leadership roles.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Acquire pine stumpage from private landowners.
  • Engage in timber cruising on private and US Forest Service land.
  • Supervise timber harvesting operations.
  • Procure delivered wood from supplier networks.
  • Expand the supplier base to align with the mill's future wood consumption needs.
  • Conduct field visits to assist and inform loggers on the specifications required for optimal log quality.
  • Become trained at the scale house to provide backup support when required.
  • Collaborate with the Procurement Manager to ensure wood flow and log size meet operational criteria.
  • Communicate effectively with sister mills to address enterprise demands.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives with mill management.

Your Qualifications:

  • Experience prioritizing safety in the workplace.
  • Strong leadership, coordination, and communication capabilities.
  • Exceptional analytical abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment, including with mill teams.
  • Self-driven and efficient in planning and executing tasks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Capability to conduct timber cruising, market log pricing, timber appraisals, and SFI auditing while ensuring compliance with best management practices.
  • Proven procurement skills and the aptitude to build strong supplier relationships and explore new sourcing opportunities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A 4-year degree in Forestry, Agricultural Business, Natural Resource Management, or Wildlife Management.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in procurement roles.
  • Familiarity with the local area and contractors.
  • Basic understanding of lumber mill operations.
