We are currently seeking a Thrift Store Assistant.Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Thrift Store Manager, the Thrift Store Assistant helps with the daily operation of Tri-Valley Haven's thrift store. This includes training and supporting volunteers, processing donations, cashiering, merchandising, and maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming store environment.Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in retail sales or related field, with ability to effectively manage store operations and work with volunteers.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Previous Thrift Store experience strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of issues related to poverty, homelessness, and violence against women and children helpful.
  • Completion of minimum required Agency training within 6 months of employment.
  • Ability to lift and carry 20-50 pounds.
  • This is a hands-on position requiring regular lifting, bending, standing, sorting, pricing, cleaning, and customer service.
  • Insured automobile that employee will use as necessary for agency related business, clean driving record.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY I. THRIFT STORE
  • Operate cash register, handle sales transactions, and follow cash-handling policies.
  • Receive, sort, clean, price, and display donated items in an organized and appealing manner.
  • Keep the store safe, clean, and free of clutter/unprocessed donations.
  • Assist with donation intake and maintain accurate donation logs and receipts.
  • Estimate value of donated merchandise and ensure consistent pricing.
  • Open and close the store as assigned.
  • Maintain strong store presentation and encourage a positive shopping experience.
  • II. VOLUNTEER SUPPORT
  • Supervise, train, and support volunteers assisting in the store.
  • Foster positive, respectful relationships with volunteers and customers.
  • Supervise volunteers in the absence of the Thrift Store Manager.
  • III. GENERAL DUTIES Solicit in-kind donations as needed.
  • Attend required meetings and trainings.
  • Represent Tri-Valley Haven in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Thrift Store Manager or the Director of Homeless and Family Support Services.
