Job Title: Test Technician 1 Job Location: 5101 Westinghouse Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28273 Pay Rate: $22/HR on W2 Duration: 12+ months (Possibility of extension) Position Description and Candidate Requirements: In Summary, we need a person who:
  • is detail oriented,
  • works well in a team environment,
  • is willing and able to work with their hands,
  • is competent in basic computer skills,
  • likes math and science,
  • communicates well,
  • takes pride in their work,
  • and is willing to work in an environment with a wide variety of tasks that may change daily.
Requirements:
  • At least a high school graduate but having an associate's degree is preferred.
  • Must have good dexterity/hand skills and willing to work with their hands
  • Operating power tools, reading gauges and calipers, using wrenches, using knives, files, etc.
  • Must be willing and able to work on their feet all day (prolonged standing, etc.)
  • Must be willing and able to lift heavy objects (within the limits set by our campus for safe lifting).
  • Mut be detail oriented.
  • Must have good vision and hearing
  • Able to meet NDE inspector eye exam requirements,
  • Must have a driver's license.
  • Must have the ability to be trained for and pass fork truck certification as well as small crane operation.
  • Must be able to clearly communicate in written and verbal English.
  • Must have computer skills in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Must be a team-oriented employee who is able to both follow directions and work independently as needed.
Typical workday:
  • First Shift Operations from 08:00 to 16:30 (we do not pay for a 30-minute lunch break, but we would follow the legal requirements to pay for two 15-minute breaks in the day).
  • Work with experienced laboratory technicians to support their daily tasks.
  • Support Materials Engineers with tasks including but not limited to:
    • Operating hand tools and small power tools
    • Taking pictures to document experiment results
    • Operating test equipment
    • Operating forklifts (if trained and qualified).
  • Recording test results on a computer.
  • Making plots/graphs in Excel or writing summaries in MS Word.
  • Cleaning up workspaces at the end of the day.
  • Sweeping, properly storing tools, materials, etc.
  • Attending regular team meetings for work and priority assignments.
