Reporting to the Manager of Test Engineering, this position involves planning, organizing, and technically directing test engineering and operations activities and staff.

Types of tests include static rocket motor firings, direct-connect ramjet/scramjet testing, altitude simulation test firings, case proof and burst pressure testing, case structural loads testing, aero-heat material testing, and dynamic/environmental testing.

The Test Engineering Manager is responsible for providing engineering analysis and oversight of product test requirements and performance, ensuring safety, environmental soundness, security, cost-effectiveness, and timeliness. Responsibilities include planning and conducting testing, preparing proposals, test procedures, and plans, overseeing test conduct and data review, and ensuring design and test objectives are met. You will also verify hardware and software performance, advise on projects, and oversee a team of engineers, who may specialize in electrical, instrumentation, control, or mechanical testing.

Supervision may include:

  • Electrical, Instrumentation, & Control (ICE) Engineers: Responsible for technical and operational support, including instrumentation selection, procurement, calibration, installation, and support of electrical test equipment, as well as development and maintenance of control software and hardware.
  • Mechanical Test Engineers: Work with clients and project teams to define test objectives, select methods and instrumentation, and develop plans and procedures for safe testing using existing facilities or designing new tools.
  • This position may be filled at the posted level or at a higher level depending on qualifications.

    Skills:

    • Assist team members in meeting schedules and resolving complex technical problems.
    • Supervise engineering activities, develop new concepts, methods, or technologies.
    • Provide leadership and guidance to engineering staff, interpret policies, and recommend modifications.

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline.
    • Nine (9) years of progressively responsible experience in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Demonstrated leadership skills, including planning, organizing, and coordinating activities.
    • Experience in Electrical, Instrumentation, and Control or Mechanical Test Engineering preferred.
