Telephone Operator - P/T 15 hrs. Position Overview: Responsible for managing high-volume incoming and outgoing calls using a computerized switchboard system. Provides critical communication support during emergencies and ensures accurate routing of calls and messages across hospital departments. Acts as a key liaison for both internal staff and external callers, including patient families and emergency services. Core Responsibilities:
- Operate a computerized switchboard console to answer, screen, and route calls efficiently and professionally.
- Handle all emergency calls, including Stat Calls, Code Blue (Team 7000), and fire/emergency alerts by paging appropriate personnel per hospital protocols.
- Collaborate with emergency services (NYPD, FDNY) and place 911 calls when necessary.
- Respond courteously to inquiries from patient families; assist in locating patient rooms and transferring calls accordingly.
- Address and escalate caller concerns or complaints to appropriate departments for resolution.
- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of On-Call Schedules for the different departments.
- Prepare and maintain the Nursing Administration on-call schedule for Manhattan and Queens locations.
- Announce overhead pages across the hospital intercom system during critical situations.
- Perform administrative support tasks, including data entry and assignment of pagers and beepers to doctors, interns, and supervisory staff.

Requirements - High School Diploma or GED
