2025 - 2026 School Year Bridgeport Public Schools Human Resources Department 45 Lyon Terrace, Room 324 Bridgeport, CT 06604 Telecommunications Technician INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES (ITS) STEP/SALARY: $64,940 - $74,278 (TIER 1A) AFSCME 1522 Current members of AFSCME LOCAL 1522 will be given first opportunity to fill the position. Candidate will possess and continually demonstrate aptitude for growth in Technology Engineering Skills and Practices. Perform software, hardware and physical infrastructure/device troubleshooting and diagnostics. Deploys end user network connected devices including computing devices, printers/IP phones, etc. Loads application software, providing technical support for mission specific end user software. Ability to provide non-technical and technical end users with clear and accurate directions. Dependable, effective, well-mannered and able to work with all different types of clients (Students, Families, General BPS Staff, Teachers, Administrators, Board Members).
MAJOR RESPONSIBLITIES: - Physical deployment and configuration of District Infrastructure devices:

- Network devices such as Wireless Access Points, Telephony Devices & Video Cameras
- Rackmount equipment such as audio/visual equipment and networked devices
- Printers, scanners and fax machines
- Install wired connections for network, audio and visual connectivity, including wire molding/cable raceways.
- Technicians must be able to install closet hardware, including connecting blocks, fiber enclosures, racks, backboards, and patch panels.
- Technicians should be able to work on all aspects of the telecommunication industry when required, such as wiring practices, underground work, color code and terminations, the ability to understand signal flow and signal path, and DSL and ethernet connections.
- Install/mount audio/video equipment such as interactive displays.
- Ability to Install wired network connection drops with CAT 3/5/6 termination skills required
- Ability to debug legacy telephone circuits using tone generator and industry standard tools
- On-site deployment of endpoint devices to District schools and administrator offices
- Assists in maintaining inventory of all District equipment
- Provide on-site assistance and remote assistance to users for telecommunication issues
- Maintain accurate documentation to support their work during the day.
- Perform and respond to work order in District incident tracking system
- Ability to drive a District owned box truck, large van or similar vehicle safety
- Ability to operate a lift gate and pallet jack for loading and unloading equipment
- Perform other duties assigned by the Director of Information Technology or designee
QUALIFICATIONS: - Associate degree required; bachelor's degree preferred in Information Technology
- A-Plus and/or Network plus certification(s) preferred
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in Information Technology / Telecom field
- Experience providing technology service delivery with end point user satisfaction
- Excellent troubleshooting techniques and ability to actively ensure user uptime and needs
- Strong organizational skills with emphasis on detail and follow-up
- Must be able to move and carry equipment up to 50lbs
