The Opportunity:

As a Technology Scout and Technical Advisor on Booz Allen's Tech Scouting & Intelligence (TS&I) team, you'll analyze a wide variety of emerging commercial technology sectors for solutions that accelerate innovation for federal clients. You'll be responsible for supporting as well as leading teams to rapidly research, digest, and distill large amounts of data about technology and market trends for stakeholders, and you'll present your findings in a clear, concise, and effective way to inform critical decisions. You'll leverage open-source information and subscription-based research tools, synthesize market research, lead technical analysis , and develop strategies for future use and adoption of emerging technologies for both internal and external clients. You will build and maintain relationships with these clients, conduct vital research, leverage Booz Allen's deep pool of technical talent, create reports highlighting key insights from your research, and deliver compelling briefings to both decision makers.

In this role, you'll lead problem curation and scoping sessions with clients to define goals and opportunities, conduct and direct market research to determine potential solutions and technology ecosystems of interest, evaluate a variety of commercial ecosystem indicators including market size and growth, venture funding, or startup activity, evaluate technical indicators including technology maturity level, foundational core components, and recent and projected advancements, recommend potential technical solutions or startup partners to clients, and facilitate demonstrations with startups. You will be relied on for your technical expertise to support in-depth technical review and documentation of products and platforms, distill and translate complex topics to actionable requests, and work broadly across applications and technology stacks.

You Have:

  • Experience with independent, self-directed research
  • Experience conducting quantitative and qualitative market research including venture funding analyses, market maps, competitive analyses, SWOT analyses, or product deep dives
  • Ability to both lead and supportthe day-to-day execution of technology assessment efforts, including analysis comparing alternatives, characterization and quantification of performance, and comprehension and development of requirements based on mission needs
  • Ability to quickly learn about and distill a wide variety of complex technical topics into core concepts understandable by general audiences
  • Ability to develop and defend theses and convictions on venture markets to clients and customers
  • Ability to communicate expectations and deliverables effectively to clients
  • Ability to display independent passion for emerging technology and a futurist mindset
  • Ability to be flexible in day-to-day work, take initiative, collaborate as part of a team environment while still being comfortable holding contrarian views, and working respectfully with teammates with widely different opinions and backgrounds
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field and 3+ years of experience in STEM with hands-on technical research or engineering, or 7+ years of experience in STEM with hands-on technical research or engineering in lieu of a degree

Nice If You Have:

  • 3+ years of experience in management consulting, venture capital, R&D, startup ecosystems, or product development approaches
  • Experience in technology areas that are critical to national priorities, including space, software-defined networks and communications, electronic warfare, and autonomy
  • Experience leading technical development teams or technical research teams
  • Ability to display “dual-literacy” and interest in geopolitics
  • Ability to provide test and evaluation criteria for products to assess integration and viability
  • Ability to display interest in technology, including how a given technology works
  • Possession of excellent communication and presentation skills, including both in-person or via teleconference
  • Top Secret clearance
  • Master's degree in a STEM field preferred; Doctorate degree in a STEM field a plus

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $86,800.00 to $198,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen's total compensation package for employees.
