NOTE: This position will perform both the role of a teacher AND Director Designee. Both job descriptions are below.

Job Summary: Teacher

Provide general care and education to children 6 weeks to 5 years of age. This position requires providing services to the assigned classroom in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, at all times, high quality child care standards based on developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Supervise Early Childhood Assistants in the classroom.
  • Performs quality care of children in accordance with expected standards.
  • Provides nurturing interactions that promote and encourage positive self-esteem in each child.
  • Utilizes developmentally appropriate educational practices to promote life skills.
  • Facilitates a quality learning environment that promotes health and safety practices.
  • Maintain open, consistent and effective communication with parents, providing parent education training, assistance and support as needed.
  • Provide reliable, accurate and timely information about the Willow Grove Child Care and Learning Center to interested parties.
  • Attain and maintain membership in Gateways to Opportunity Registry.
  • Follow all rules, regulations, and policies of Memorial Hospital and Hancock County Senior Services and follow directives from supervisors.
  • Follow attendance policy as assigned by supervisor.
  • Perform other functions that may be assigned by the Administration.
  • Attend professional development seminars to maintain an understanding of the current best practices of curriculum and administrative functions of child development programs.
  • Articulate the center's mission to employees and other stakeholders and solicit support in realizing the mission.
  • Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
  • Represent the center in a professional, courteous and positive manner at all times.
  • Promote a positive, caring climate for learning for staff, students, and parents.
  • Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Communicate effectively staff, students and their families.
  • Perform any and all duties as assigned.

  • Listening skills, availability and responsiveness to children.
  • Thorough understanding of Willow Grove Child Care and Learning Center
  • Ensure selected curriculum is being followed appropriately.
  • Strong organizational, communication, public relations, computer and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to plan, direct, conduct and coordinate Willow Grove Child Care and Learning Center
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures.
  • Knowledge and implementation of Illinois child care guidelines and state licensing.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and proven success implementing programs for children based on developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Accepts and respects differences in children, parents and coworkers.
  • Desire to help children meet their developmental and emotional needs.

Physical and Environmental Demands:

  • Regularly: Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Regularly: Work with frequent interruptions.
  • Occasionally: Prolonged and irregular hours
  • Frequently: Standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling
  • Regularly: Prolonged use of computer and repetitive hand motions
  • Occasionally: Lifting up to 50 pounds.

Job Summary: Director Designee

Under the supervision of the Daycare Director, this position is responsible for overseeing and directing daily operations of the Daycare Center. The Designee is also responsible for the operation of the Daycare Center in the absence of the Daycare Director.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least 21 years of age
  • Three years of experience as a classroom teacher of young children
  • Minimum of Associates Degree in Child Development/Early Childhood Education OR Sixty-four (64) semester hours of credit from an accredited college or university NOTE: 21 of these semester hours must be in child development, early childhood education or early childhood special education.
  • Gateways to Opportunity Level I Illinois Director Credential OR semester hours of college credit in administration, leadership or management.
  • Must be credentialed or eligible for credentialing under 407.Appendix G
  • Must obtain Food Handlers Certificate
  • Completion of Lead Safety Training, including mitigation plan strategies and impact of lead exposure.
  • Active CPR certification for pediatric ages or ability to obtain.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Maintain, at all times, high quality child care standards based on developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Supervise all staff members of the child care center, including substitute staff.
  • Assist the Daycare Director in the hiring process and orientation for all new staff.
  • Perform Daycare Director duties in the absence of the Daycare Director.
  • Assists Teachers in obtaining needed supplies and interpreting the budget.
  • Oversee the day to day functions of the Daycare center and manage staff.
  • Implement and update policies and procedures for the operation of the Daycare center.
  • Assure consistent compliance with all Illinois DCFS rules and regulations, including maintenance of annual fire, health and other inspections.
  • Assist with the annual licensing of the Daycare center with DCFS.
  • Assist with the maintenance of files according to DCFS requirements.
  • Maintain open, consistent and effective communication with parents, providing parent education training, assistance and support as needed.
  • Provide reliable, accurate and timely information about the Daycare center to interested parties.
  • Attain and maintain membership in Gateways to Opportunity Registry and maintain records of staff .
  • Assist in the development of an In-service Program to ensure Daycare center staff meet the annual in servicing requirements of 15 hours per year.
  • Follow all rules, regulations, and policies of Memorial Hospital and Hancock County Senior Services and follow directives from supervisors.
  • Follow attendance policy as assigned by supervisor.
  • Perform other functions that may be assigned by the Administration.
  • Attend professional development seminars to maintain an understanding of the current best practices of curriculum and administrative functions of child development programs.
  • Assist with training and professional development of all Daycare Center staff.
  • Articulate the center's mission to employees and other stakeholders and solicit support in realizing the mission.
  • Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
  • Represent the center in a professional, courteous and positive manner at all times.
  • Promote a positive, caring climate for learning for staff, students, and parents.
