This is the working level classification in the Cultural Resources Consultant series. This classification is responsible for completing cultural resources work of average difficulty. This includes, but is not limited to, the following duties: reviewing cultural resource projects, issuing permits, conducting cultural resource surveys and research, reviewing rehabilitation and restoration plans, providing technical assistance, sharing cultural resource information, managing cultural resource collections, coordinating education programs, and administering grants. This class differs from that of the Cultural Resource Consultant 1 in that the latter is a training classification and performs at the entry level. This class differs from that of the Cultural Resource Consultant 3 in that the latter is the lead level classification in the series and performs at a higher complexity level.Responsibilities

  • Provides reviews of local, state, and federal projects for impacts to cultural resources such as archaeological sites, historic buildings and structures, or cultural landscapes. Reviews and approves restoration and rehabilitation plans of historic buildings and cultural sites to ensure the plans are in compliance state and federal laws and standards.
  • Issues permits and enforces permit stipulations for cultural resource investigations on state owned or controlled lands. Plans, organizes, and conducts educational and public outreach activities such as, tours, museum exhibits, interpretive displays, workshops, or presentations,
  • Conducts cultural resources research and surveys, including, but not limited to, fieldwork,
laboratory, archival, geospatial analyses, reporting and publication.
  • Provides technical assistance and advice to state and federal agencies, local governments, private parties, and the public regarding cultural resources. Creates, manages, and shares cultural resources information with state and federal agencies, local governments, private parties, and the public.
  • Coordinates cultural resources collections including, but not limited to, artifacts from archaeological sites, buildings or structures, archival records, objects of modern material culture, folklore, or art.
  • Coordinates state or federal cultural resources programs. Administers state and federal grants to promote, preserve, and document cultural resources.
  • Assists in the management of land containing cultural resources.
