Position Description: The Systems & Network Administrator is responsible for managing, maintaining, and implementing all network- and systems related technology on campus. Working closely with a team of ITS professionals on a small college campus, the Systems & Network Administrator will be on the front lines of implementing, maintaining, and improving essential technology services that help the Paul Smith's College community succeed. Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintain the day-to-day operations of the PSC server infrastructure by monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance, and repair. Verify production products and services are performing as intended.
- Maintain the day-to-day operations of the PSC network infrastructure by monitoring system performance, configuration, maintenance, and repair. Contribute to system, network, and cyber security design and implementation.
- Support the systems and network infrastructure such as servers, switches, firewall, wireless controllers, and access points.
- Identify strengths and weaknesses of existing network configurations.
- Implement network security, standards, and protocols to create resilient networks.
- Contribute to system, network, and cyber security design and implementation.
- Implement hardware and software to help automate processes and assist campus initiatives.
- Assist with escalated Help Desk Tickets.
- Share on-call responsibility with the ITS team.
- Partner with the rest of the ITS team to build and maintain the system's infrastructure on time and on budget.
- Establish and maintain vendor relationships related to IT infrastructure to ensure efficient and sustainable use of college resources.
- Pursue professional development initiatives to stay up-to-date on networking and server skills and trends in higher education.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of training and experience, as well as any applicable certifications.
- 5+ years of experience in an IT-related field.
- 3+ years as a Windows/Linux System Administrator and/or demonstrated ability.
- 3+ years as a Network Administrator.
- Experience with the following technologies:
- Windows Server (2016 and higher)
- Hyper-V 2022
- Linux Distros (CentOS, RHEL, Ubuntu, etc.)
- Storage Technologies & Techniques (SAN, NAS, RAID, etc.)
- Basic Domain Controller Traits (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, etc.)
- Basic Server Functions (SMTP, FTP, Web, etc.)
- Web Hosting Roles (IIS, Apache, etc.)
- Enterprise-Level Switches & Routers (Cisco, Dell, Fortinet, etc.)
- Enterprise-Level Firewalls & VPNs (SonicWALL, Fortinet, etc.)
- Government Regulations for Higher Education (HIPAA, FERPA, PCI DSS, etc.)
- Monitoring Tools (Nagios, cacti, etc.)
- Ability to design, lead, and complete projects that are on time and on budget.
- Experience training members of the community in technology when needed.
- Excellent communication skills, ability to correspond clearly and in a timely manner.
- Excellent research skills as well as strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills and a desire to work with faculty, staff, and students.

Desired Technical Qualifications:
- Fluent in one or more programming languages (PHP, Visual Basic, Visual C++, etc.).
- Fluent with one or more scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, etc.).
- Experience with cloud technologies including SaaS, PaaS and laaS architectures and how they integrate with on campus infrastructure (storage, authentication, single sign on, etc.).
- Experience with the following technologies:
- Office 365 & Active Directory Integration
- Databases (SQL, mongoDB, etc.)
