A Day in the LifeMedtronic's Coronary and Renal Denervation (CRDN) business is looking for a motivated Senior Systems Engineering Manager to be part of a high-performing team that is revolutionizing the design and development of medical devices. In this role, you will leverage both your technical breadth and business acumen to accelerate the design and development of next generation medical devices. The work you do will impact patients globally and help support Medtronic's mission of alleviating pain, restoring health, and extending life for millions. This functional management position requires strong technical and leadership skills to support the design and development of innovative, new products within the Cardiac and Vascular Group. The candidate will be responsible for leading a functional team of Systems Engineers to achieve the technical objectives of the CRDN business. The functional leadership responsibilities will include oversight of a portion of the Systems Engineering team in their day-to-day activities, talent development and driving functional excellence, all towards improving the effectiveness of the Systems Engineering organization. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the patients we serve and an unrelenting desire to improve our business. We are working onsite a minimum of 4 days per week as part of our commitment to fostering a culture of professional growth and cross-functional collaboration as we work together to engineer the extraordinary. This role will require less than 10% of travel to enhance collaboration and ensure successful completion of projects.
Systems Engineering activities typically involve trade-offs between risks, benefits, and performance. Systems Engineering activities are performed within the constraints of a complex regulatory environment, in partnership with development (software, firmware, hardware, mechanical engineering), research, clinical, regulatory, product planning, and marketing groups.
A key focus of this role will be to support development, characterization and integration testing for a next generation Renal Denervation RF ablation generator.
Position Description:
Functional Excellence:
Assist in leading cross-functional teams to make appropriate, timely decisions and recommendations that result in the successful completion of major organizational objectives.
Drive the Systems strategy to advance Systems Engineering through process, design practices, and organizational changes.
Specific focus on test execution strategy, both manual and automated testing.
Manage engineering labs, including budget, equipment needs, project resourcing and assignments.
Talent Development:
Manage team to achieve System Engineering goals.
Develop System Engineers to be effective leaders, including how to best approach technical issues, soft skills, etc.
Provide targeted opportunities to develop and stretch team member's knowledge and capabilities.
Recruit individuals whose skills will enable Systems Engineering to achieve organizational objectives.
Program Execution:
Communicate across Business Units and with functional partners to evaluate, develop, and plan technical solutions.
Ensure programs have robust technical solutions and risk burndown plans.
Lead multiple system engineering activities in the product development life cycle including identification, planning, monitoring and executing tasks for entire project.
Supports key efforts if major technical issues are identified.
Strategic Planning:
Identify long-term opportunities that will continue to advance the systems engineering function over a 3-5 year time horizon.
Understand the R&D future portfolio and align system engineering talent strategies to achieve those goals.
Identify and drive long-term strategic change initiatives (e.g. test automation, model-based system design, etc.)
Involved in assessment of long-term opportunities with other companies or academic efforts.
Travel Requirements:
Travel approximately once per quarter.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in engineering or other technical discipline.
7+ years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with 5+ years of managerial experience.
Specialized Knowledge or Skills:
Multiple years' experience as a System Engineer and/or Core Team member in key programs.
A person that is versatile, technically savvy, curious, a broad systems thinker, and willing to work in a space with a lot of ambiguity.
Good at communicating complex technical opportunities and challenges to upper management in a concise but thorough fashion.
A person that can protect time for strategic initiatives, while supporting key tactical needs.
Prior experience managing people or large teams.
In depth understanding of the CRHF domain, especially in the software domain, and development processes or equivalent design controls.
Nice to Have
Bachelors, Masters, PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or related degree program.
With Bachelors: 15+ years with relevant product development and technical leadership.
With Masters: 10+ years with relevant product development and technical leadership.
Experience with implementing and leading DevOps change initiatives.
Experience with system-level test automation.
Demonstrated domain knowledge and understands applications to assigned projects.
Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement by studying and applying technical advances in area of expertise.
Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
Familiarity with Design for Six Sigma or related product development processes.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$168,800.00 - $253,200.00 This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP). The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
