Our Middle School at School in the Square is our founding campus at S2, where we began our belief that a culture of care leads to a culture of achievement. Our middle school is located in Washington Heights where our programs are designed with students' personal interests and learning styles in mind. S2's program is dedicated to providing each student with the tools and support to become lifelong learners. That includes embracing that 89% of S2 families are Hispanic or Latinx.

Our Student Support Services Coordinator reports directly to the Middle School Principal and is supported by the Associate Director of Student Support Services to.

Reporting to our Principal, supported by the Associate Director of Student Support Services, and in collaboration with a diverse and committed School Leadership Team (SLT), you will help implement a quality academic, social, and physical development intervention program. The Student Support Services Coordinator will use multiple sources of data to ensure students are receiving research-based support, intervention programs are being implemented with fidelity, students are making meaningful achievement, and families are partners in the work. The Student Support Services Coordinator will create and implement programs for students who need additional support, and support teachers to create access for all learners in their classroom with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Who You Are:

  • Passionate dedication to improve the minds, characters, and lives of students both in and out of school through leadership, including but not limited to:
    • A high appreciation for and ability to work in and lead a diverse community.
    • Demonstrated ability to provide high-leverage feedback via classroom observations and school walk-throughs.
    • An adept problem-solver with a demonstrated ability to think critically, plan strategically, as well as research and perform detailed data analysis.
    • Skilled in written and oral communication to diverse audiences and facilitating decision-making among multiple parties.
    • Demonstrated ability to interpret policy procedures and data.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and special education including but not limited to:
    • Special Education compliance and effective practice
    • Principles and methods for curriculum and instruction, co-curricular and extracurricular design, and the measurement of training and development
    • Interactive, hands on, creative learning
    • Use of technology to support instruction in all areas
    • Use of assessment to drive instruction
    • Differentiation of curriculum to meet the needs of diverse learners
    • Knowledge of co-teaching strategies
    • Knowledge of ELL strategies
  • Proactive and fast learner who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team player capable of working both collaboratively and independently with a proven ability to:
    • Engage, enlist and energize others in ongoing improvement of learning and teaching.
    • Self-initiate, determine a course of action, and make necessary proposals for change when necessary.
  • Prior leadership experience preferred.
  • A graduate of a Masters' Degree and holder of a NYS Teaching Certification as a Teacher of Students with Disabilities or a service provider.
  • At least 3 years of prior years of teaching experience and demonstrated academic outcomes for students.

In addition to meaningful and rewarding work, School in the Square provides ultra competitive salaries. Expected salary range for this role is $90,000 - $130,000, depending on experience, level of education, required certifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role.
