Position Overview:The Program Director is responsible for the program including academic content, faculty performance, student satisfactory academic progress and continued development and effectiveness of the program.
Essential Functions: The following essential functions apply both to a traditional and distance education learning environment:Administrative - Selects and makes hiring recommendations of instructional staff
- Provides regular supervision and evaluation of instructional staff
- Assists in the acquisition of clinical training sites
- Maintains continuous liaison with all clinical sites to insure site compliance with programs learning objectives
- Assists with maintaining continuous accreditation of the program with all relevant accrediting bodies and governmental entities
- Maintains current knowledge of the professional discipline and educational methodologies through continuing professional development
- Serves as a member on the Centers Oversight Committee, Admissions Committee, Curriculum Committee, Faculty Committee and the Programs Advisory Board and Program Committee
Clinical Experience- Supervise programs Clinical Coordinator to assure the appropriateness and effectiveness of students clinical experience
- Responsible for supervision of clinical faculty and experience when required
- Serve as programs Clinical Coordinator when required
Admissions- Assists in the recruitment of students
- Evaluates applicants application packet
- Interviews applicants
- Satisfactory Academic Progress
- Routinely reviews student attendance and participation in both the didactic and clinical components
- Provides academic counseling to students
- Develops academic remediation plans for students failing to maintain satisfactory academic progress and who may be at risk of academic probation and/or termination
Curricula - Reviews and revises curricula, syllabi , lesson plans and secondary teaching material
- Exercises continuous assessment and revisions, if necessary, to the academic assessment system both didactic and clinical
- Teaches courses in the program
Assessments- Insures timely execution of all assessment tools related to students didactic & clinical performance
- Evaluates instructional staff teaching activities
- Evaluates all primary and secondary teaching materials used in courses
- Evaluates all library holdings and makes recommendations for new electronic and/or hard copy holdings
Requirements: BPSS:- Two (2) years of occupational experience required. Can count towards ABHES occupational experience if completed in the past five (5) years
ABHES:- Three (3) of last five (5) years of operating room experience in a scrub role OR
- Three (3) years teaching experience prior to employment OR
- Two (2) years of occupational experience in the last five (5) years AND one (1) year teaching experience
Educational Requirements:- Accredited Surgical Technology Program Certificate required;
- Bachelors Degree required
