📌 Position Overview

Job Title: Surgical Coordinator

Type: Full-Time Contract Position (13-week assignment) with possible extension

Facility: Mount Sinai Health System

Location: New York, NY 10029

Start Date: 09/02/2025

Hours:

  • Per Day: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (8 hours/day)
  • Days: Monday through Friday (5 shifts/week)
  • Hours per Week: 40

✅ Must-Have Requirements

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of surgical scheduling experience (required)
  • Experience with patient demographics verification, insurance pre-certifications, and medical clearance coordination

Education:

  • High school diploma (required)
  • Associate's degree (preferred)

Certifications (Preferred):

  • Certificate in Medical Terminology
  • Certificate in ICD-9
  • Certificate in CPT coding

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills with professional demeanor
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment

🩺 Key Job Duties

Surgical Scheduling & Coordination:

  • Coordinate all operating room (OR) surgeries and procedures
  • Liaise between referring physicians and surgeons to communicate clinical data and determine OR scheduling
  • Confirm surgeries with patients one day prior to procedure
  • Schedule post-operative follow-up visits with providers
  • Obtain patient medical clearance for scheduled surgeries

Administrative & Insurance Coordination:

  • Verify patient demographics and update records
  • Obtain pre-certifications from insurance carriers for all surgeries and procedures
  • Record hospital reservations and pre-admit data in the CERNER system
  • Collect and distribute required paperwork to internal and external stakeholders

Workflow Oversight & Training:

  • Monitor front office workflow, adjusting processes for optimal service delivery
  • Train and mentor new or less experienced surgical scheduling staff

Other Duties:

  • Handle patient inquiries regarding policies and procedures
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned
