Summary

The Manager of Supplier Quality will lead and coordinate Blount Fine Foods' Approved Supplier & Material Program, as well as Approved Co-Manufacturers. This role involves coordinating and providing a cohesive interface between Manufacturing, Purchasing, R & D, FSQA Lab, and Suppliers on quality, food safety, and technical matters. The position requires the ability to relate to employees on the manufacturing floor and upper management within Blount and the suppliers. Critical programs include HACCP, food fraud, and preventative controls. This role involves risk assessment and hazard analysis of food ingredients and suppliers' processes, recommending control measures to mitigate potential risks. Managing foreign supplier verification programs may also be essential.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and expansion of the FSQA supplier, material, and co-manufacturer approval and monitoring process.
  • Develop processes to monitor each supplier's performance against FSQA and Procurement KPIs, including routine reporting to senior management.
  • Create and maintain manuals for co-manufacturers, suppliers, and 3PLs to ensure food safety and quality standards are clearly defined and understood.
  • Ensure the effectiveness of new supplier assessments and approvals.
  • Provide a framework for supplier assessment to ensure product safety and proper processes.
  • Manage hazard analysis and risk assessments for suppliers and raw materials.
  • Manage shelf-life extension programs for raw materials.
  • Validate material specifications and ensure performance standards are met.
  • Improve specifications related to food safety and quality attributes.
  • Contribute to raw material quality improvements by developing consistent attributes and specifications.
  • Support the development of corporate specifications for raw materials.
  • Resolve raw material nonconformities.
  • Act as a technical expert to resolve quality issues, providing direction and management.
  • Manage continuous quality improvement initiatives for suppliers and raw materials, owning the development and accuracy of quality metrics.
  • Perform supplier audits, write audit reports, and approve responses and corrective actions.
  • Organize reports on food safety assessments and recommend action plans.
  • Approve supplier selection through qualification processes, including audits.
  • Support new raw material product qualifications.
  • Communicate audit findings and support internal audits.
  • Qualify and audit third-party warehouses as needed.
  • Identify and address supplier quality and compliance issues using customer complaint data.
  • Implement and report on continuous improvement initiatives regarding raw material quality and supplier qualification processes.
  • Review and analyze supplier complaint investigations.
  • Manage raw material risk collaboratively with Purchasing.
  • Lead root cause analysis for quality and safety issues.
  • Provide supplier quality data to senior management and measure key metrics.
  • Education and Experience

    Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience, with 3-5 years in quality assurance. Certifications preferred include Food Fraud, FSVP, PCQI, Supplier Quality Professional, and SQF Practitioner. Experience with Trace Gains supplier management tool is required.
