DutiesThis position is located in the Office of Congressional and Public Affairs (OCPA), Director's Office, Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP). It serves as the Chief, Office of Public Affairs, working closely with FBOP leadership, employees, outside agencies, the media, and the public. The role involves overseeing and managing the public affairs program within the FBOP, including planning, designing, and executing initiatives to inform and educate the public about FBOP's programs, activities, and services. The incumbent establishes and maintains effective relationships with news media, specialized groups, and field offices. They respond to information requests from the media and the public, often providing detailed explanations regarding the organization's activities or addressing negative comments.
SalaryThe Career Transition Assistance Plan (CTAP) provides eligible surplus and displaced Department of Justice employees with selection priority for vacancies. QualificationsApplicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at a level equivalent to the next lower grade, involving activities such as developing communication manuals, preparing agency statements for the media, handling media interviews, leading digital media campaigns, conducting stakeholder analyses, and developing communication plans. Education cannot substitute for experience. For foreign education, see the Department of Education guidelines. Transcripts must be uploaded if education is a requirement for the position.
Other InformationThis position is not in the bargaining unit. The annual salary rate is $184,363. Initial appointment requires a one-year probationary period, and the incumbent may be relocated geographically. The appointment is contingent upon satisfactory background checks, physical, and drug screening. Current law enforcement employees will lose law enforcement coverage upon appointment. Additional requirements include providing proof of residence, completing background checks, and possibly other security measures.
