QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must hold a Bachelor's and Master's degree, NYS certification in Reading, Elementary Education or Special Education, and a School Building Leader Certificate (SBL), School Administrator/Supervisor Certificate (SAS), School Administrator Certificate (SDA) or New York State School District Leader (SDL) with demonstrated knowledge of the application of scientifically research-based reading.

Candidates must have completed three years of approved and appropriate teaching experience in Reading, K-8 classroom teaching and/or worked in a supportive capacity in an elementary school. Candidates must be familiar with NYS Next Generation Learning Standards, ELA State Assessments, and response to intervention. Candidates must be proficient in the use of technology.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Supervisor for Reading will be assigned to the Reading Department. The Supervisor for Reading will collaborate and coordinate with the Director of Reading and other appropriate instructional staff in the Office of Instruction / Division of Curriculum, Assessment and Instruction in all aspects of the design, implementation, and oversight of reading, including appropriate special education and multilingual education components. Completion of training in scientifically-based reading research is required. Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the full and ongoing implementation of the Buffalo Public Schools Reading Program (K-12) using scientifically-based reading research;

  • Providing instructional support for schools as they implement a K-6 core reading program and an intervention program based on current research;

  • Supporting the roll out and delivery of professional development in literacy;

  • Monitoring the student data system;

  • Analyzing data to monitor building effectiveness;

  • Analyzing data to drive instructional decisions;

  • Managing resources to ensure fiscal responsibility;

  • Providing immediate intervention when progress of children in a group, class, grade level or school is not proficient.

  • Support the District Literacy Coaches and Support Reading Teachers.

  • Other duties as assigned.

APPOINTMENT:

Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following the assessment of training, experience, credentials, evaluation of service, program needs, and personal interview.
