The New York City Department of Homeless Services (DHS) is the largest organization in the United States dedicated to preventing and addressing homelessness. DHS works in partnership with other City Agencies and Nonprofit Organizations to prevent homelessness, reduce street homelessness, provide temporary shelter, and connect individuals and families to stable housing, focusing on accountability, empathy, and equity.

DHS employs innovative strategies to deliver high-quality services that support a swift transition from shelter to self-sufficiency. The Agency manages hundreds of facilities with a large team and a multi-billion-dollar budget to meet the diverse needs of New Yorkers experiencing homelessness.

HERO is the 24/7 DHS unit responsible for identifying and securing shelter for families and single adults seeking emergency housing assistance. HERO consists of five units: Vacancy Control for Families with Children and Single Adults, Serious Incidents Unit, Special Projects, Strategic Initiatives, and Portfolio Management.

The Department of Homeless Services (DHS) is recruiting one (1) Supervisor II to oversee the Placement & Vacancy Control Unit. The responsibilities include:

• Supporting HERO – PATH Liaison activities, including log outs, reporting, and case management.
• Monitoring the Adult Vacancy Control inbox and hotline, handling transfer requests.
• Supervising, training, and monitoring shelter placement staff.
• Managing HERO email inboxes and hotline, responding to inquiries and requests.
• Preparing daily work assignments and distributing activities.
• Maintaining staff attendance controls, conducting conferences, and completing evaluations.
• Ensuring adequate staffing coverage and preparing overtime lists.
• Supporting supervision and placements alongside the Manager.
• Preparing daily reports for HERO management.
• Providing coverage during Manager's absence.
• Ensuring case completion and troubleshooting difficult cases.
• Referring staff for ongoing training, including mandatory agency training.

Hours/Schedule: Tuesday – Saturday, 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM.

Minimum Qualifications: A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of full-time satisfactory experience in social casework, with at least one year in a supervisory capacity.

Salary Range: $69,880.00 – $80,362.00
