The CDP Trial Division is the primary public defender in New York City, providing robust and experienced holistic, client centered representation to people facing misdemeanor, felony, and homicide charges.Essential Duties/ResponsibilitiesThe Supervising Attorney for our Trial Offices are on the front line, providing:High-quality, zealous representation to the clients of the organizationTraining, mentoring and coaching interdisciplinary teams of attorneys, paralegals, and investigatorsWorking closely with our social worker departmentDuties Include, But Are Not Limited ToObserving hearing and trial, training new lawyers and law students, second chairing hearings and trials, and evaluating client servicesSupervising Attorneys will carry a reduced caseload and work with newer attorneys as second seats on the mattersThe ideal candidate is a motivated leader that values teaching and mentoring, innovation, and professional development and understands the vital role public defenders play in challenging systemic racism and oppression through direct in-person litigation of the people we are honored to serveThey will consciously create and enhance a diverse and affirming workplace culture that is supportive, collaborative, and affirming to our clients and colleaguesOther duties as assignedSalary And BenefitsThe salary range represents a good faith estimate of the range we expect to pay for this role. The actual salary offered may vary depending on many factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, as well as collectively bargained salary steps for unionized roles.Salary Range: $99,444 - $163,507The Legal Aid Society offers a generous benefits package including health insurance, paid vacation, disability, and life insurance, and more.
