Health Office Assistant SUBSTITUTEUSD 497Details FTE: WORK AS NEEDED HOURS/DAY: WORK AS NEEDED DAYS PER YEAR: WORK AS NEEDED Purpose Statement The job of Health Office Assistant is done for the purpose/s of providing first aid and medications in addressing the health needs of students; clerical support and assisting the nurse in providing appropriate care and/or referral for ill, medically fragile and/or injured students. Essential Functions
- Administers, under the direction of the school nurse, first aid and medication to students for the purpose of meeting immediate health care needs.
- Assists school nurse, students, and other school personnel for the purpose of providing specialized treatments, monitoring medical treatments and/or testing at school site.
- Cleans clinic areas (e.g. sinks, counters, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary environment.
- Maintains inventory of supplies for the purpose of ensuring availability as needed.
- Notifies nurse and/or principal of activities and/or incidents (e.g. suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining child's personal safety, a positive home environment and adhering to state, district and/or school policies.
- Participates in meetings, workshops and professional development for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information, developing knowledge required to perform job functions and meet district objectives.
- Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying, faxing, etc.) for the purpose of supporting health services activities.
- Supervises students for the purpose of monitoring students referred for illness.
Other Functions
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: administering first aid; operating standard office equipment including pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records; dispensing medication. KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: office application software; 1st aid/CPR. ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather and/or collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using defined methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: maintaining confidentiality; establishing relationships with parents and school age children; working with frequent interruptions; adhere to district policies; regular attendance except when allowed leave. Responsibility Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; providing information and/or advising others; operating within a defined budget. Working Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 40% sitting, 30% walking, and 30% standing. The job is performed under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness. Experience Job related experience is desired. Education High school diploma or equivalent.
