Job Summary See Job Description Job Description / Essential Elements:I. Position Title: Health Clerk Technician II. Postiion Description Under the general supervision of the school principal, appropriate medical personnel or program coordinator. To perform and be trained by a school nurse in a variety of medical treatments and procedures necessary in providing specialized health care services to meet the medical and physical needs of all students including those with exceptional needs in accordance to state law and district policy; to act as an assistant to the school nurse and teachers in performing assigned tasks which will make learning more effective for pupils, and to perform a variety of clerical duties including record keeping, filing, and typing and to do other work as required. Positions in this class are established to assist a health program coordinator, site administrator, and staff, or school nurse in carrying out the objectives of the school/district health program. Incumbents often use independent judgment in needs of all students. Duties may include administering first aid, CPR, providing specialized health care such as toileting, gastric tube feeding, catheterization, suctional, colostomy care, oxygen administration, and other services required by a medical doctor for which training is available through a physician or school nurse; recording various data on records and assisting with vision and hearing screening. Contact with students is continuous throughout the day with student supervision responsibilities in the absence of a supervising nurse, program coordinator, or site administrator. III. Qualification:Knowledge of: Basic principles and practices of first aid, CPR, and health care practices, basic anatomy and physiology; childhood and adolescent illnesses and diseases, clean and sterile treatment techniques, community emergency medical resources, basic concepts of child development and behavior; modern office practices and procedures; appropriate and standard English usage,spelling, punctuation, and mathematics. Ability to: Analyze situations and initiate an effective course of action; learn and follow a variety of medical treatment and procedures of specialized health care services; i.e., CPR, first aid, catheterization, suctional, lifting, and toileting; communicate effectively both orally and in writing and maintain good relationships with students, parents, and site staff; prepare and maintain accurate health records and reports; learn the terminology and operation of a variety of health care equipment including the typewriter/word processor; read prescriptions and directions from school nurse and physicians regarding treatment; learn immunization law and procedures and learn to identify communicable diseases and specialized health care procedures. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. PROOF OF EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS MUST ACCOMPANY THE APPLICATION. Experience: One (1) year of recent paid experience providing related health care services. SPECIALIZED REQUIREMENTS: Standard Red Cross First Aid Certificate; valid California Driver's license; Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate (CPR). Bilingual (Spanish) skills desirable. SKILLS: Keyboard at 15 words per minute. Requirements / Qualifications
- Proof of HS Graduation (Copy of high school diploma/GED certificate or copy of transcripts showing high school graduation date.)
