Job Description :
A human services agency in New York City is currently seeking a CASAC professional to join their staff in the Bronx as a Substance Abuse Counselor. In this role, the Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) will be responsible for completing initial and annual substance abuse assessments for all clients, participates in the development of the initial service plan and its revisions, and provides individual, family and group substance abuse counseling and advocacy and referrals to community programs as needed. About the Opportunity:
  • State Date: ASAP
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday
  • Hours: 9am to 5pm (35hrs; 1hr unpaid lunch)
Responsibilities: The Substance Abuse Counselor:
  • Conducts initial and annual substance abuse assessments including substance abuse assessments.
  • Collaborates with clients and staff in the development of the initial comprehensive service plans and plan revisions, including identifying mutually agreed upon long and short-term substance abuse related goals.
  • Provides individual, and group substance abuse counseling.
  • Advocacy and referrals to community-based substance abuse programs as needed.
  • Documents all services provided in a timely manner as required.
  • Participates in training, workshops, seminars and case conference as well as meetings was required.
  • Arranges for in-patient substance abuse treatment.
  • Educates clients and staff on harm reduction.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC)
  • 3 to 5 years of substance abuse counseling experience.
  • Individual, Family and Group Counseling experience
  • Community minded, patient, creative, flexible, compassionate, and culturally sensitive to persons who are diagnosed with HIV/AIDS,severe and persistent mental illness and/or substance abuse
  • Extensive knowledge of community resources.
  • Extensive knowledge of alcohol and substance abuse principals and practices.
  • Solid assessment and documentation skills
  • Great interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills (active listening, written and verbal)
  • Ability to work within a team and accomplish multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Highly organized and efficient
Desired Skills:
  • CASAC-T or LCSW
  • Experience with individuals with HIV/AIDS, chronic mental illness, and/or chemical dependence and their families
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)
