Job Title Student Worker, Human Resources Agency Texas Division of Emergency Management Department Human Resources Section Proposed Minimum Salary $15.00 hourly Job Location Austin, Texas Job Type Student Worker Job Description GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) is an emergency response entity, and this status can affect working hours, travel, and change in duties as needed. Under general direction, the Student Worker, Human Resources (HR) will assist the HR Division with general office duties and provide support for HR staff. Duties may include serving as the gatekeeper for offices within HR, face-to-face interactions at the HR reception area, filing documents, preparing correspondences, coordinating, scheduling meetings, and assisting with special projects. This position reports to the Section Chief, Human Resources. Work is restricted to college students. Priorities or class schedules to be submitted on a weekly basis. Work schedule and work adjustments subject to prior approval. Work is performed at the TDEM Headquarters located in Austin, Texas. **This position is not eligible for benefits. Work hours may increase from, up to 19 hours, to up to 40 hours, in-between semester breaks. The hourly rate for this position is fixed at $15.00 and is non-negotiable. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prepares new hire orientation paperwork.
  • Assists with file management by creating, preparing, and updating personnel files and/or filing documentation.
  • Assists with retrieving electronic documents or information from appropriate systems and applications (i.e., Workday, DocuSign, etc.) when needed.
  • Helps maintain tidiness of the file and supply room.
  • Performs clerical duties, such as faxing documents, making copies, printing documents, scanning, preparing correspondence, coordinating and scheduling meetings, scribing during meetings, and transmitting messages.
  • Maintains confidentiality when working with sensitive information. Ensures electronic and hardcopy documents are secured and protected.
  • Provides support and contributes to HR projects.
  • May serve as first line of customer service to the public and employees entering the Human Resources suite.
  • May assist with coordinating summer benefits enrollment.
  • May contribute to the hiring process by performing reference checks, printing applications, and filing paperwork.
  • May shadow HR staff in different functions and roles to learn about the fundamentals of HR.
  • May answer HR's main phone line and other HR staff phone lines, as needed.
  • Face-to-face and person-to-person interactions are required.
  • Maintains regular course of attendance during authorized work schedule.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education - Current student status with an institution of higher education or future student enrollment status for the upcoming school semester.
