Position Overview The Weston Public Schools is seeking to hire a Student Support Assistant (SSA) for Country Elementary School. The primary responsibility of the SSA will be to connect with and support all students in classrooms across the school and at lunch/recess. The SSA will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support students with academic, social, and behavioral needs in an inclusion setting. This is an ideal position for someone who is interested in school counseling, social work, special education, or teaching. The role is for 7.5 hours per day (inclusive of a 30 minute unpaid lunch), Monday-Friday, for 182 days (180 days with students and two professional development days). About the Weston Public Schools The Weston Public Schools enrolls approximately 2,000 students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12. The school district includes a high school for grades 9-12, a middle school for grades 6-8, an upper elementary school for grades 4-5, and two lower elementary schools for pre-kindergarten through grade 3. Since 1967, Weston has participated in METCO (Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity) - a voluntary school integration program that places Boston residents in suburban schools. The Weston METCO program enrolls approximately 167 students (K-12). Key Responsibilities
  • Embrace the diversity of the Weston Public Schools by fostering an environment of respect and inclusion
  • Connect with students in classes/areas across the school
  • Support individual students and groups of students who struggle with social, emotional, and/or behavioral challenges
  • Participate as a key member in Classroom Support Team Meetings with the principal, school counselor, psychologist, and other stakeholders to develop plans to support students and staff
  • Assist teachers in devising strategies to reinforce positive behavior
  • Complete all required documentation and data collection
  • Other duties as assigned by the school principal
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience working with students with social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties
  • Training in psychology, social work, teaching, or counseling
Compensation and Benefits The Student Support Assistant will work 7.5 hours per day (inclusive of a 30 minute unpaid lunch), when school is in session. The SSA will earn $33.52 per hour, and qualify for full benefits, including health and dental insurance, and participation in the Middlesex County Retirement System.
