Job Description: The Student Success Advisor supports the comprehensive academic advisement of undergraduate students at Champlain College and is a member of a collaborative team that provides professional, developmental, and transformative advising services. The Student Success Advisor provides holistic support to students in assigned cohorts including first-year students, exploring/undecided students, and students from specified divisions or programs. The ideal candidate combines traditional academic advising expertise with proactive outreach capabilities and cross-divisional collaboration skills to ensure student success and timely graduation. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong interpersonal and analytical abilities, and proficiency with technological systems while maintaining a student-centered, strengths-based approach to problem-solving. The Student Success Advisor demonstrates cultural competency and works effectively with students of diverse backgrounds, learning styles, and life experiences, empowering students toward positive self-advocacy through active listening and comprehensive support services. Key Responsibilities: Student Advisement & Support:
  • Advise an assigned caseload of undergraduate students, with particular focus on first- year students, exploring/undecided students, and students from specified academic divisions
  • Provide comprehensive academic planning support including course selection, scheduling, and degree pathway planning
  • Independently and consistently maintain the integrity of the academic record, student registration, monitoring student progress
  • Engages in active listening with students in such a way that builds student relationships, encourages student reflection, provides guidance about resources to aid student in making well informed decisions
  • Assist students with course registration, schedule adjustments, and evaluation of drops/withdrawals
  • Deliver high-quality, holistic advising services to support academic transitions and planning
  • Provide intensive academic support and intervention for students on academic probation and in academic recovery
  • Provide guidance to students regarding study abroad programs, encompassing academic planning and the process for transferring course credits.
Program Administration & Coordination:
  • Coordinate and collaborate with colleagues in the Student Success Center to ensure students are connected to the appropriate resources.
  • Welcome, register, and orient new students to help them understand their academic requirements and college resources
  • Participate in all New Student Orientation sessions, providing advising support during key enrollment periods
Collaboration & Integration:
  • Collaborate regularly with faculty advisors and academic leadership across divisions to ensure strong knowledge of academic requirements and policies
  • Participate in CARE meetings and provide appropriate follow-up if required
  • Coordinate with Academic Divisions to provide scheduling insights and support registration planning
  • Integrate student support into student support systems and processes including academic recovery program, Salesforce or similar early alert systems
  • Will make positive contributions toward the development of student outreach and communication as it pertains to student success, retention, and completion
  • Participate in Curriculum Committee meetings to stay abreast of curriculum updates
Technology & Data Management:
  • Maintain proficiency in Colleague, Google Suite, reporting tools, Salesforce, and electronic filing systems
  • Respond to and provide intervention for students flagged through early alert system
  • Conduct regular review of cyclical reports to inform student schedule and degree plan updates
  • Support data collection and assessment activities for annual reporting
Professional Development & Engagement:
  • Participate in initial and ongoing training, including advising best practices, curriculum requirements, policy updates, diversity and inclusion, and financial aid
  • Represent the Academic Advising office at campus events, admissions yield events, and Orientation Weekend
  • Maintain current knowledge of academic policies, procedures, and resources
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Master's degree in College Student Personnel Services, Counseling, Higher Education Administration, or related field preferred
  • 2-3 years of academic advising experience in higher education
  • Experience with college curriculum, academic policies, and campus resources
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to work with diverse populations
  • Knowledge of academic advising principles, practices, and student development theory
  • Familiarity with FERPA guidelines, confidentiality requirements, and Financial Aid processes including SAP policies
  • Proficiency with student information systems (preferably Colleague), Google Suite, and reporting tools
  • Exceptional attention to detail, follow-through capabilities, and collaborative work style
  • Experience with social media/digital communication platforms preferred
Additional Information: Working Arrangements:
  • Full-time (37.5 hours/week), on-campus position based at our main campus in Burlington, VT
  • Hybrid or remote options may be available during summer or college breaks
  • Standard business hours Monday through Friday (8:30am-5:00pm) with occasional evening and weekend hours for orientation sessions, campus events, and student support activities
  • Position requires regular interaction with students, faculty, and staff across campus departments
  • Comfortable office environment with extensive computer use and ability to maintain confidentiality in student-centered work
Compensation & Benefits:
  • Annual Salary: $48,000 - $52,000
