Tri-County Technical College invites applicants to the role of part-time/temporary Student Retention Specialist. Reporting to the Dean of Academic & Career Foundations, the Student Retention Specialist is responsible for assisting in retention efforts in the Comprehensive Studies Department under the division of Academic and Career Foundations. The successful candidate will identify at-risk students, provide support to those students, and maintain, monitor, and review student files. During non-peak times, this individual will also provide support to the Comprehensive Studies Flex Labs and I-BEST Success Lab. Responsibilities includes but not limited to:
- Identifies at-risk students through reports, emails, and daily monitoring of the early alert process known as Starfish. This system is for faculty and staff to share concerns and/or identify students who may be struggling in a number of academic or personal areas. The SRS will reach out to students with a variety of targeted interventions as a primary method of strengthening and maintaining student retention. With a goal of assisting students to become more comfortable and confident with college life and course content, appropriate interventions include, but are not limited to the following: Working with students on study and note-taking strategies, time management, navigation of misc. course software, and developing a plan with suggestions to help students get back on track; making appropriate referrals to college resources (i.e. Tutoring Center, Math+Lab, Student Development and Wellness, Accessibility Resource Center, Financial Aid, Career Services, Supplemental Instruction, Flex Labs, EDGE, Skill Shops, etc.) and community agencies to meet student needs.
- Documents telephone, e-mail, and face-to-face contacts with students and maintains appropriate files; provides statements of services provided and specifics on students' cases and any other required documentation.
- Monitors and reviews students' progress by maintaining contact with the students and their instructors as appropriate; follows up on progress through personal contact and correspondence.
- Classroom visits at the beginning of each semester so that students are aware of you as a resource and are provided with contact information.
- Assist students in connecting with tutoring and supplemental instruction resources and/or facilitates individual or group workshops on specific subjects and skills for at-risk students.
- Assist with student outreach and check-ins at the beginning of each semester.
- Acts as a resource to adjunct faculty as needed and performs all other duties as assigned including as-needed support to the Comprehensive Studies Flex Labs and Academic Success Lab.
The Student Retention Specialist role is a part-time/temporary role that is not eligible for employee benefits.Minimum and Additional Requirements Associate's Degree or higher Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to those who have previous experience working with developmental, under-resourced, non-traditional, and at-risk populations.
