Job Description The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind invites you to consider a challenging and diverse employment opportunity with our school. We are looking for a highly-motivated individual to fill the position of Student Life Coordinator with the Residential Program at the Kenneth Burdett School of the Deaf in Ogden. Work Schedule in coordination with the school year. August - May: Sunday 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. and Monday through Thursday, 2 p.m. to 11 p.m.Roles and Responsibilities As a Student Life Coordinator you will:
  • Provide functional supervision to staff in USDB student housing.
  • Train staff on how to implement written behavior interventions and educational strategies as determined during IEP meetings, collect data, and interact with students.

  • Train staff serving students in the USD cottages.
  • Communicate with parents, teachers, school nurses, social workers, special service and other support staff, and the director of Residential Services to coordinate activities and efforts.
  • Act as leader in emergency situations.
  • Coordinate students activities.
  • Establish and maintain a professional, yet warm environment for student living and employee working conditions.
  • Observe, evaluate, document and act upon staff behaviors to encourage helpful behaviors and eliminate negative ones.
  • Drive state motor pool vehicles to transport students and attend off-campus meetings
  • Inspect the student housing facility and assigned motor pool vehicle.
  • Meet with the KBS Director and other supervisors weekly.
  • Perform Student Life Technician duties as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements The Ideal Candidate will possess:
  • Ability to lead the work of others by monitoring, reviewing, training co-workers, delegating work, etc.
  • Act as a parent and/or role model.
  • Deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism.
  • Teach personal hygiene and other daily living skills.
  • Can apply behavioral modification techniques.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Enter, transcribe, record, store or maintain information in either written or electronic form.
  • Maintain a strict level of confidentiality.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with previous experience working with deaf children.
  • MANDT training.
  • Native American Sign Language skills required.

      • Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.
    • Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.
  • Paid Time Off:
    • Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual, 4 hours sick).

  • Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.
  • Housing may be provided on Campus for this position. The work schedule for this position is Sunday, 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. and Monday through Thursday, 2 p.m.- 11 p.m. during the school year. This position will assist with summer camps as appropriate.
