Job Description :

The position requires a student, pursuing Master's degree within the health services field from an accredited college/university. Must have knowledge of local and county social service agencies. Must have good to excellent written and oral communications skills. Other: Must be able to deal with clients in a caring and compassionate manner. Student is expected to follow all clinical experience and seek guidance as needed. The student counselor intern reports directly to the Program Administrator, with guidance from the Director of Substance Abuse and Counseling Services. **MSW students must be supervised by LCSW. LPC students must be supervised by an LPC. Requirements Major Responsibilities:

  • Daily case conferences with Program Administrator and or Director of Substance Abuse and Counseling Services.
  • Provides Crisis Intervention by de-escalation techniques.
  • Provides and schedules recreational activities, community integration and specified courses within the context of each participants goals and behavioral objectives.
  • Provide monthly statistical reports.
  • Attend ongoing training and inservices to promote education within the mental health field.
  • Promotes and teaches personal development courses and links participants with area resources.
  • Complete knowledge of written assignments and proper presentation to participants.
  • Assists with developing community linkages such as:
    • Neighborhood health centers
    • Planned parenthood
    • Adult education courses
    • Voter information
    9. Assists with setting up life skills sessions for the counseling staff to conduct education session such as: Simulated settings for:
    • Library
    • Banking
    • Interview techniques
    • First aide
    • Physical fitness
    • Senior group events
    • Housekeeping
    • Job application process
    10. Will run education-based group session. 11. Students will not facilitate a process group or other forms of unsupervised psychotherapy sessions. 12. Restraints, isolation, exclusion is prohibited in the mental health program. 13. Will assist with showing and demonstrating evacuation routes and safety features. 14. Will undergo a background check to include the state's criminal database, fingerprint clearance, Central Registry of offenders against individuals with developmental disabilities as well as provide a clearance for children abuse registry and sex offender database. 15. Will assist the program with the collection of materials needed to better serve the individuals such as documents for advocacy, personal self-care, community integration and self-help groups within the surrounding counties. 16. Will provide monthly statistical reports to assist the Licensed Counselors with quantitative analysis of program outcomes to include volunteer assignments. 17. Is a mandated reporter. Should the Counselor Intern witness or participate in an event, such as an incident of crime against a program participant, the Counselor Intern is required by law to report it to the State and program the Program Administrator. Will participate in onboarding training of the UIR (Unusual Incident Report) process, that lists all categories of reportable incident. 18. Counselor Interns will not receive gifts or gratuities from participants. 19. Will adhere to all client confidentiality in accordance with N.J.A.C. 10:37 in regards clinical records, medical records or other identifying information and all applicable laws.
