Student Assistant - First Year Peer Advisor- Parsons School of Design - The New School : Job Details

PEER ADVISORS will work closely with the First Year Advising team to enrich the First Year Experience. They will conduct outreach specifically to new students by answering questions and guiding them through registration. They welcome students into the New School community and educate them on university resources.

Responsibilities:

* Engage new students in dialog about The New School and Advising

* Assist first-year students with preparation for their group advising sessions

* Attend and co-facilitate first-year group advising sessions

* Follow-up by phone and by e-mail with students who have not registered

* Educate students about The New School and New York City culture

* Orient new students to university offices and resources

* Monitor Peer Advisor email account and respond to student inquiries

* Using graphic/information design skills, revise registration materials for ease of understanding, develop promotional materials.

* Design a series of advising-related workshops to be held in the fall and spring semester (potential topics include: building a balanced schedule and lesser-known resources)

* Follow-up with first-year students who are less confident about their major choice and refer them to resources/experiences to help them become more confident about their decisions

* Meet one on one with students to discuss their experience and explore possible academic and career paths

* Take initiative to develop programs and resources to educate students and build community

* Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned

Work Mode:

On-Campus Position - Employees in this position are expected to work on-campus during regularly scheduled work hours due to the nature of the work being that which is not feasible, or not in the best interest of the organization, to be performed remotely.

Salary Range:

15.00/hourly
